i say that alcohol is worse...

there have only been 2 fatal car accidents in year 2005 while the driver was DUI marijuana... thats actually a smaller chance of getting in an accident high than straight.... however...

4 out of every 10 fatal car accidents (year 05) were when the driver is DUI alcohol...

so to say that driving while drunk, and driving while high are the same is simply insane!

From the perspective of operating a motor vehicle, I would say that they are equally detrimental. Marijuana is known to effect depth perception and short term memory. Alcohol is basically an anesthetic -- albeit a crude one. I'd just as soon no one try to drive if they've been partaking of either. The idea of slinging around a ton-and-a-half of metal while impared in any way strikes me as irresponsible.

From a short term personal danger point of view, alcohol "wins" hands down. Every year, people die of alcohol poisoning. It is so common that it's only reported under unusual circumstances (say a teenage college student at a frat party). We never hear or read about death due to "marijuana poisoning". Given that marijuana is illegal, it would be in the government's interest to publicize such cases aggressively. Since we hear nothing about such incidents, we may assume that they are very, very rare.

From a long term health perspective, the situation gets pretty complicated. There is some evidence that a small amount of some kinds of alcohol (I'm thinking red wine here) may actually good for your cardiovascular system. I have never heard of any evidence claiming that inhaling burning vegetation (i.e. smoking marijuana) is good for you over the long term. There is plenty of evidence that smoking other drugs, (e.g. tobacco) is very bad even in moderation.

On the other hand, the numbers of my friends and family members who have become addicted and seriously hurt by alcohol abuse completely swamps anything I've heard of with regards to marijuana. So, from an addiction & abuse point of view, I think that alcohol is the more dangerous of the two drugs.

Know your recreational chemicals & party responsibly.

i think alcohol is worse. i mean the effects last longer at least with me. that is just my opinion. if marijuana was legalized i would still stay away from the stuff. I'm through with it legal or not. alcohol i think is worse but i will drink till the day i die.

Alcohol by far. There has never ever been one case of anyone dying from using marijuana but 1000's of people die everyday from alcohol.

Alcohol is far worse. It is more addictive and more destructive (both for the person using it, and those around).

Alcohol hands down. I was always able to drive while I was stoned. Can't do that drunk. It's too bad it's not legalized.

addictions are addictions. You can get addicted to either. The effects of alcohol are dreadful - MADD have it right.

But either can destroy marriages and harm kids. Cigarettes are bad too. So are narcotics.

Most things have useful purposes and the abuse is the problem coupled with addiction - recipe for DISaster.

Stay clean and sober people. And use AA and Alanon
