When I go to Vegas on vaca. I normally stay up at leas 24 hours, usually more.
When I'm having fun I can feel my body get tired, but I push on, maybe drink coffe.
I just stayed up 29 hours yesterday trying to get my sleep pattern back on track.
Your body will normally shut down and you will have no choice but to crash out.
Obvious physical efects, you may look like crap.
Also you could begin to hallucinate.
Mostly your reflexes go to crap and you just lose energy.
They say that driving tired is far worse than driving drunk because your body doesn't reacty so well even with adrenaline.
You need that recharge and most likely your body will catch up on the sleep you missed, so be prepared to get a long rest when you finally do crash.

Get some rest. The stress from the family crisis will do you more harm that missing 1 night's sleep.
Long-term sleep deprivation is used the world over--except inside the continental U.S.--to interrogate prisoners. It wears people down, and can cause hallucinations. But one night is just training for our armed forces, so relax, and enjoy the buzz.
Best of luck with your family.

It certainly won't kill you, but it can affect you mentally the most. Sleep deprivation can cause hallucinations and other negative emotional and mental symptoms. Everyone loses sleep sometimes...try to take a 20 minute power nap to re-charge, or go to bed early tonight. You're probably going to feel icky and drained...when I lack sleep I get nauseated and a headache, but that's pretty much the worst of it. Good luck.

Going one day without sleep will not kill you, and the older you are the better your body will handle it. You may feel drowsy and fall asleep during the day if not kept active. once my brother stayed up the whole night then he was about 11 years old. the next day he went to his friends house and was watching TV, he fell asleep and slept walked back to our house and slept in him bed until the morning. When he woke up he had no recollection of that happened to him.
