I'm doing a persuasive speech with my topic being: Should the main goal of prisons be to rehabilitate or reprimand(punish). I'm persuading the reprimand side. I need sites, accounts, stories, statistics ANYTHING that can help to persuade my audience that the main goal of prisons should in fact be to punish and that rehabilitation is a joke or doesn't work or that it's a waste of time and money that would oh so helpful! I need as much information as you can find and sites along with the information will be greatly appreciated for my biliography! Thank you so much!

I can't copy and paste here because the original document is a pdf. Here is the gist of what it argues"

"Studies of felony probationers show a recidivism rate of 6 to 19 times the arrest rate for the general population. as of 1991, 23% of all prisoners were probation violators and 87% of the probation violators had been arrested for a new offense."

What is jail time or prison time? It is a punishment because someone broke a law. Is it rehabilitaion? Yes it is. The punishment is supposed to be part of the rehabilitation.

I don't have much time to look up the any good stuff for you right now, but honestly rehabilitation is a joke in almost 85-90 percent of the time. This I can say without having to look at statistics drawn up by some guy behind a desk looking at papers and adding numbers. I work in the "corrections field".

Good luck with your speech.

if prisons are geared toward rehabilitating inmates to successfully do so, prison time could not be as harsh and therefore would not act as much as a deterrent for would be criminals. If people know that prison will simply be a course about how not to live their lives instead of a punishment, they will be more likely to commit crimes because their mindset is that there is no punishment for it.

It's called a bibliography, not a biliography.

And you should be doing your OWN research so that you can find out yourself. How can you make an argument when you haven't done the research??

I had to actually go to the library and know the Dewey Decimal System to do research when I was in school. I wouldn't have trusted anyone with anything I was putting MY name on.

The proposed important purpose of the detention center structures are assume to be to rehabilitate the inmates, yet this does not continuously fall genuine. i understand a woman who's an alcoholic and has been out and in of the detention center structures maximum of her life for DWI's. while she grew to become into in detention center and'or penal complex all her letters could communicate approximately is, how she grew to become into going to tie one on while she have been given out. this does not appear like rehibilitation or punishment to me. you should remember that maximum prisons and/or jails; are revolving doorways with the aid of fact of all the over-crowding. for my section, they must positioned the petty crimes back on the the streets with court supervision; and shop the greater extreme crimes in detention center/penal complex and handle them like this is the place they are at. genuine now the individuals in detention center/penal complex think of they are on a protracted trip. Plus, the worst of the inhabitants are taught through older and greater knowledgeable prisoners; a thank you to grow to be better and do larger issues while they get out. And on an extremely final notice; gangsters bypass into prisons finding for their variety of gangs to connect.
