No, they don't make me hate the religion. It's the person I dislike. I know some very nice christian people that don't feel the need to shove their beliefs down my throat. They are obviously comfortable in their choice of faith that they don't feel the need to go overboard.
The fundies on the other hand... It's ok to be proud of what you believe... but come on!

I feel that as a christian a lot of christians get brainwashed by legalism, traditions, and the rituals of men.
That is one of the reasons that many turn away from the faith.
Paul had the same fight about legalism:
Acts 15:4-11
4 When they arrived at Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the apostles and the elders, and they reported all that God had done with them. 5 But some of the sect of the Pharisees who had believed stood up, saying, "It is necessary to circumcise them and to direct them to observe the Law of Moses."
6 The apostles and the elders came together to look into this matter. 7 After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them, "Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe. 8 "And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; 9 and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. 10 "Now therefore why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? 11 "But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are."
They also forget about these commandements of Jesus:
Luke 6:35
"But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return; and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High; for He Himself is kind to ungrateful and evil men.
Galatians 5:14
For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF."
Just remember, christians are not perfect. We sin too. Don't forget that you worship God alone, regardless of what man does.
Don't get angry with God because of the actions of humans. He gave us freewill. We don't always use it wisely...

The fundament of christian religion as I read it from the Bible is nothing else then is love and forgivenes . One who deviate from these two is not a fundamental christian but a bad christian . There are only few fundamentalist christians ,the rest are just false christians who failed to understand what christianity is all about .
1 Corinthians 13 1-13 "13:1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, [6] but have not love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known.
13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love."

Personally I cringe every time I see some televangelist or psychotic missionary attacking everything and everyone. I hate being lumped in the same group. I hate the look people get in their eyes when I say that I'm a Christian. Mostly I hate that I'm judged by other Christians because I have friends of other faiths.

They need some clarity. I believe that the psalms, solomon, ecclesiastes is great stuff. The rest of the old testament should be destroyed. it is not to be taken literally and is a dangerous tool in the hands of these religions. The new testament not so bad at all I would repackage ALL of Jesus's teachings which are written in RED.... and get rid of the rest.
Think about it, this would be better. Not a cure-all but helpful.

hate is a very strong word. i do not hate. i do, however, find fundamentalist christians an interesting group. i would never try to persuade anyone out of their path, but it seems to me that this form of christianity takes everything a little to seriously. i have seen and heard many who didn't follow what they preach. it does seem to be a religion focused on the possible damnation of others instead of taking care of one's own soul. i don't believe in proselytizing and maybe that's by biggest pet peeve. i don't buy anything from a door to door salesman, including an idea of god. i wish the fundamentalists on this sight, the one's who keep preaching of salvation and how we are going to hell, would find something else to say. it does make it interesting, tho

I don't hate Christianity. But there sure are a LOT of Christians who deserve my revulsion.
And don't listen to the people who will start talking about how those people aren't "true" Christians. That's bullcrap. If you believe in Jesus Christ, you're a Christian by definition. Many denominations like to pretend they have the "right" one, when they're just too scared to admit that even the Christ-believers are utterly clueless about the nature of God and the universe.
Edit to add: The saddest part about fundamentalist mainstream religion is that it makes many people turn completely away from all spiritual beliefs. People assume that the JCI religions are the only "correct" choices, and reject god entirely. The don't understand that a belief in deity can be entirely independent of membership in an organized religion. That's the worst trick of all - convincing people that they need some outside source or action (priests, baptism, the Bible, etc.) to be close to God, when all one needs is an open heart and an open mind.

I was raised Catholic, became "born again" baptist, and finally after many years of searching myself became pagan. One of the things that always drives me mad is when fundamentalists talk about freedom of religion, they mean christianity, not all religions. As retired military, I hold those freedoms dearly and yes I have had friends who died defending those freedoms. Now I understand how they think. I once during my "born again" phase told my mother she was going to hell because she was Catholic. All you have to do to see the hatred in some fundamentalists is to pick up a "Chick" publications tract, they hate everyone who doesn't think and worship like them. Sounds a lot like those jihadists doesn't it.

Id say just jerky Christians in a nutshell. Doesn't matter if they're fundies or liberal Christians, if they're jerks they make the religion look bad. Same for any other religion, philosophy or life style. No one should ever be abrasive enough to push people away.

Can you elaborate on the actions these "fundamental Christians" do that cause you to grieve? I can think of some actions from professing "Christians" (whom I do not believe are Christians at all) that grieve me (i.e., the abominable rantings of the Westboro Baptist bunch). But, no one can cause me to reject Christianity since Christianity isn't based on them. I didn't become a Christian because of a group. I became a Christian because of Christianity itself. And to leave Christianity because someone acts like a complete idiot is leaving for the wrong reasons, in my most humble opinion.
