I am plumb girl =( I recently quit my job think I could get another one fast, but so far nothing. I was wanting to donate plasma, but worried that they would reject me becaus I'm fat. I recently went vegan which has helped my weight go down. *I do get enough protien, iron, etc..if your worried. My blood pressure is also normal. Does any one know if there are weight limits?

Actually, they do pay you (zlbplamsa.com). You may think I'm a bum, but this is the first time since I started working at the age of 15 that I've had a gap between jobs. I had too much respect for myself (and my customers) to stay there. Not that you wanted to hear the details of my life, but if you're ever in a pickle and need cash...well the option is really out there. $40 for your first visit at the location I'm going to.

"It's a lot easier to stay healthy if you have a vegetarian diet as opposed to a vegan one."

I have complete faith in my vegan life style. I can't even tell you the difference it has made in my life. I have always been fat, but its getting better day by day because of my diet. I have never been this health, I have never felt this good.

NO

they will decide based on your vitals.

They will check your heart, test your iron levels, etc. as long as you pass their basic screening you're in!

Oh your question has made me very sad. What hurtful girls. I'm sure you are lovely, the fact you haven't eaten in 3 weeks is very serious. Right without being patronising you are only 17 and unfortunately girls can be very immature and insensitive at 17. I think you need to speak to family or a close friend as to how you are feeling. Try taking a more positive approach in the sense of dont just stop eating, but look at lifestyle choices adapt a healthy eating regime and maybe join a gym, it can give you a real boost. I'm sure you are great and in time you will meet someone that likes you for you.

No, they won't reject you based on your plumpness.... Rejection is based on several things, any diseases, recent tattoos, anemia, if you donated too recently for a follow-up donation...things like that. Weight has nothing to do with it as far as I know.

I used to donate plasma in college for extra $$$ and you can donate more often than with blood and your donation payments (where I went) escalate for up to 3 donations and then start back at the bottom and cycle through with the price going up and down every 3 donations (with in a certain time-frame) I think all 3 donations had to be with in 6 weeks of the initial donation. However, things might have changed...that was 10 years ago...

Good Luck with finding a new job and going vegan... I couldn't do that, I like eating a good steak way too much...yummy!!

One reason for rejecting would be low iron count. The only way to know for sure is to go and talk to them. High blood pressure could also result in being turned away. They want to be sure that you are physically able to give the plasma. You said that these are normal, so that is a plus. As for the weight, I don't think that that is a reason for automatic rejection. Good for you, blood is needed.

no you are fine I was 220 last time I went and the only reason I can think of is if your on medicine but I will tell you to drink alot of water the day before and the same day because it helps blood flow don't eat any fatty foods it will clog your blood and you will be there longer. I live in AZ they pay good . and we do it all the time. BMAC They do pay for plasma they don't for blood. Maybe you should look it up..Good luck

The only weight restriction is you must weigh at least 110 lbs.

Prior to your first plasma donation you will undergo a medical history interview; physical examination; including, but not limited to weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature, as welll as a handson physical examination; blood and urine testing.

Be Honest – they test the plasma after you donate and you will be banned for life if they find anything wrong with it.

I wanted to give plasma once, but they said no because I was too skin for their liking. I was normal for my weight, but on the light side. I guess I also didn't have enough iron, as I wasn't eating very healthy at the time.

Just go and try. plus, it's good because they'll tell you if there's something wrong with your blood.

No there's not a weight limit, unless bad health. You won't make enough money to make up for the lose of a job tho.You don't quit a job till you have a job in hand. These day's job's are hard to find,i guess you found that out.

they should have a website..but if your iron's low....blood pressure too hight...piercings or have travelled to certain parts of the world they will reject you..however, if none of the above pertain to you..your weight shouldn't matter..i was really heavy when i donated blood and the only thing they cared about was iron, blood pressure, temperature, and if i had eaten that morning...you should be good!

They reject you if your iron is too low or if you weigh less than 120 pounds. Make sure you eat a good meal before you donate so that you don't pass out afterward. Been there, done that, not pleasant!

They shouldn't reject you based on your figure alone. They might reject you on grounds of diet though. It is very difficult to get all of your necessary nutrients from a vegan diet and easy to miss out on nutrients such as folate and vitamin D. It's a lot easier to stay healthy if you have a vegetarian diet as opposed to a vegan one.
