I am losing loads of hair (I am 26), I suspect some of my habits are dead wrong....

1. Not brushing (Can't brush when you have curly hair, unless you want me to look like you stuck your fingers in a socket). I think it's bad not to brush regularly, because I believe it stimulates the blood circulation in scalp - hair.

2. Brushing when wet from shower (Only way you won't look like I stuck my fingers in a socket)

3. Washing hair every day ( if I go to swimming pool), but trying and succeeding not to!

4. Wet it every morning when wake up (that's what us curly hair girls have to do...I think)

I suspect they are all in the "What not to do to your hair" bible...

Washing your hair every day won't do it any harm, provided you use a shampoo that's suitable for frequent washing - something fairly mild. Not brushing is also not going to damage your hair - I usually only ever comb mine.

What's causing your damage is the brushing while wet - it stretches the hairs, and damages the follicles, meaning that each hair will be much weaker. Instead, try combing gently when wet, trying not to pull on the hairs. If it's very tangled, start at the bottom and hold the hair in the middle, so that when you pull - which you only do gently - you're only pulling from the place you're holding, not from the root. Comb in small sections, without dragging, and your hair should be far less damaged than if you're dragging a comb or a brush through the entire length of your wet hair.

Also, try a leave-in conditioner for curly hair - there are some nice ones that you spray in after washing, when wet, and then comb through. It'll stop the hair getting too frizzy, and keep it in better condition so improve the falling-out situation.

Good luck!

If your hair loss is patchy or noticeable you may want to see a Dr. to rule out a deficiency.

I have long, straight hair - it's about 3/4 way down my back. I too am guilty of not brushing often because it seems to make my hair flat and it gets oily quicker - brushing does stimulate blood flow and oil gland production. I read somewhere that it's normal to lose up to 100 hairs per day. I figure if you don't brush each day the hairs just hang around and then when they do, it could be an accumulation of shedding. Also, thick, curly or long hair may appear to be more than it really is. Here is what I recommend:

1. Buy a satin pillowcase. It greatly reduces bed head and tangles. Also if your hair is long enough braid it at night.
2. Give your hair a good brushing before you shower and really get down to the scalp. Use a detangler if you get snags. I like Back to Basics light conditioner/detangler and regular old No More Tears works well too, as well as Aussie slip detangler (which you use in the shower like a conditioner).
3. When you get out of the shower work a leave in conditioner thru the hair and comb thru with a wide tooth comb, not a regular comb or brush. I also like Herbal Essence leave-conditioner, which also detangles. I don't like regular brushing on wet hair - the hair is softer when it's wet and it's easier to break the hair and also to pull it out of the scalp when it's wet.
4. When you do brush in between shampoos, mist the detangler on the top layer and brush as little as possible. Do most of your brushing on the layers underneath. The moisture from the spray should help keep it from poofing too much.

Hi, for one thing washing your hair everyday strips the moisture out of your hair, but as you wet it everyday you may have to wash it every day. I used to have this problem and used to wet my hair everyday and my hair got really dry and brittle. If your curly hair is really bad and you have tried not to many products i suggest buy something for curly hair and always use a leave in conditioner each time you wash your hair and always use and intensive treatment as well as the leave in conditioner. Have you tried drying your hair straight or getting some hair straigteners. You may need a good pair as im suggesting you will need a high heat to straigten it. GHD s are good and so are kodo hair straigteners these are about £40 and ghds are £100 but are better than any i have tried.
Swimming can also dry out your hair as well, curly hair is more dryer than straigth so it needs good care.
I know using heat on your hair is really bad. Ive been using tresemme shampoo and conditioner for dry brittle hair and it has heat protection capabilitys and also a heat protection spray. If you use these you should be fine.,

If you don't brush out the dead hairs they will seem to be 'falling out' you'd loose lots into your hairbrush. Instead of brushing when wet try buying a nice (sawcut) wide tooth comb (Kent do one for about £5) and comb it wet. (More likely to break and get into bad condition if brushed wet). Washing every day shouldn't be a problem as long as you condition it afterward. Give yourself a scalp 'massage' to help the circulation.
If you actually have bald patches, go to the doctor.

Have you been recently losing your hair? If it's just been recent, maybe you're stressed or going through something. Or make sure you're eating a healthy diet.

I don't see anything wrong with what you're doing, if you have unruly curly hair.. cause I have just wavy hair and when I want to keep my waves, I just brush my hair when wet as well.. but I never really had a problem about losing my hair.

As far as brushing have you tried those "comb brushes"? It doesn't have bristles but it is plastic and puts less stress on your hair.

As ethnic women we must make sure we moisturize our hair and scalp! Instead of wetting it everyday, try using a moisturizing mouse or gel that is made for curly hair texures and to keep your natural curls bouncy and fresh.

I think stress and other health issues should be explored as well..

It could be thyroid problems which can occur at any age but especially after giving birth or stress or poor diet. If you are really losing large amounts of hair you should see a doctor. A simple blood test can tell what the problem is. Anorexia also causes hair loss.

look in the garnier section. Get the following products

garnier detangler- AFTER you get out of the shower put that in and brush your hair from the BOTTOM UP!

garnier shiner (in a ball like bottle) use in the morning after you brush your hair a little bit.

get any leave in conditioners from bath and body. That stuff will help your hair look nice and stay nice

I have really thick, curly hair. My hair was falling out really badly for a while, handfuls at a time, and became really dry. I had just had surgery and was really sick at the time. My doctor said this was normal because my body wasn't getting the nutrition it needed (my illness prevented me from eating much). He told me to start taking vitamins and try to increase my intake of healthy nutritious foods... it worked. My hair has returned to its normal state and I am no longer losing it.

try using your brush in the shower and using shampoo once a week, and conditioner every day. But your hair falling out...sounds like this may be a health thing.
