get a perm

It takes a few hours, but here's what you do:
1. Condition your hair-don't shampoo.
2. Towel it so it's not dripping but still damp.
3. Take a small piece of hair, soak it up and down with about 2 or 3 squirts of a setting spray, then wrap it in an extra small roller. Do that to your entire head (It will take about two hours if you have very long hair, so get someone to help you)
4. You can hand dry them or sleep in them, whatever works best for you.
5. Take them out and you'll have tons of tight pretty curls. You can leave them in, or if you want an afro, pull them apart with your fingers. It hurts a little, but it's worth it.

The best afro would be achieved from virgin hair that has not been chemically treated, so if you have a perm, you may not get the look that you want but I just cut my perm out and my hair curls naturally so I just fluff out the curls to rock my fro

People on this site give the rudest answers sometimes..

I use Herbal Hessances Gel, in the blue bottle. Its called 'set me up' gel. It works so well for me. It makes my hair realy curly, and holds the curl.

What your going to want to do, is turn your head over, and scrunch your hair. Then place a towel on a table or chair, anything really, and then slowly place your head down, so your hair is scrunched up. Then leave it in the towel for about a half an hour. Then let it air dry the rest of the way. Works for me!

Good Luck!

Its not an afro unless its natural. No perm, no relaxer, no crinkles from braids. Anything else is just a cute updo. Unless you want to just buy one of those fake afro puffs from the beauty supply, you might want to take that big chop and let your natural texture grow out.

Set your hair on perm rods or sponge rollers or for really tight curls use pipe cleaners with a good setting lotion. When your hair is dry use your fingers to fluff out the curls to the shape you like.

Well it really depends on your hair type.

My hair is naturally curly so, I really don't do anything to it.
But back in high school I remember my friend Anita, would wash her hair at night, put little bit of baby oil, and braid it while wet.
In the morning she would UN-braid it and had little mousse/hair spray, or you can use rollers- I've even seen ppl that use straws to get little mini curls. Let us know how it works out, best of luck!

You can braid your hair while it is still wet, apply some curling mousse on it, and go to bed like that. when you take them off, you will most probably have an afro.

I don't know if you get a relaxer or not but if so, stop relaxing it and wear your natural hair texture. Then you'll have a cute lil afro in no time.
