I'd like to know the "physical difference." Has there been a study that shows a physical difference in the brain when a person has a memory and when they have a thought?

This physical difference will be in the area of the brain and the chemicals involved. Memory regions will vary between the Hippocampus, the Amygdula and the anterior cingulate cortex. The location of the memory will be determined by the emotional impact and usage of the memory, ie joyous memory vs textbook studying.

With regards to the thought processing parts of the brain, this will be spread between the right and left hemisphere of the temporal cortex. Will depend on the artistic/analytical basis as well as emotional content.
