B/c Judeo-Christian beliefs have been taught to everyone in the US and some of their principles are still with a majority. I've met quite a few people who will admit the Bible is not 100% accurate nor go to any church regularly, but still label themselves Christian. So, they retain the thought that atheism means someone either Satanic and/or immoral. Most are too busy with their life to think about it- that conclusion is there, in their head already. Reason is still getting through so, hopefully, in the future, atheism will be seen as a philosophy, not some evil choice. Some other person pointed out that it was a lot worse just 50-100 years ago. Before that (a long time before) were the witch trials. Before that, the Inquisition, before that the Crusades...so, progress is being made and I've seen very reasonable answers here.

Read the history of America to understand why. If you take a good perspective, you will see why. Start from the reasons behind the migration of Europeans to the AMericas. WHo were these people and what influence do their thoughts and beliefs have on us today? It will make sense. Atheism is not as rampant as people want you to believe. Still, it's a personal choice that must be accepted.

Athiesm is driven by the same type of stubborn concrete idealism that Christianity is based on. Except they argue there isnt a God.
I laugh when I hear 2 opposing views argue because both sides end up sounding like babbling 3 year olds.
So when it comes to religious sects they think the athiest are stupid and the athiest think the ones who believe in God are stupid.
Agnostics think they are both stupid.

The United States is a western country based on a western Judeo-Christian culture. That's why we are one nation under God. It's just built into our culture that there is a God.

Because if you look into history carefully enough you'll realize that this country was not only founded on freedom but also religion. Look at the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. There is some reference of religion in both. And even today people are trying to take religion out of the government and many people are against that.

i am a Muslim woman happy to serve Allah. Now being in the US, there is this Amendment that has freedom of religion. okay sounds great. But really, there is no freedom of religion. i can't tell you how many people are just plain rude, crude and obnoxious. but on the other hand. it's just a feeling that people can't stand. As worshipers to God, be you any religion who gives praise to Him, we have a sense of devotion. having said that; when we come across Atheists, we feel as if it is our duty to direct a lost soul to the straight path. it's not supposed to be any thing person to do this. it's called caring about the people and obeying the God. now as i said earlier, some people are just rude, because they belittle, because there prejudice, and because they themselves need guidance. i have an American side to my family, and i also have an so called uncle who just don't like Arabs. So we pretty much don't like each other. People like him have little minds, closed hearts and blind eyes. all we can do is pray. but im sure it's not just in the US. some Arabs are like this too. and the war has played a tremendous role of prejudice.

actually I would say it's the other way around. people don't want to believe in God. everyday I get on here, and I see people's comments on God, and they say stuff like "there is no god", or they say something really offensive and blasphemous. I'd say Christianity is looked down upon more so than atheism.

The atheist I know in my personal life are quite normal. We quietly respect each others views and remain friends and neighbors.
On here it's a different story. Some enjoy antagonizing or trying to find reason to justify their dis-belief. SOME, not all.
