I don't have to wish, there is a God.
Just because you haven't experienced something doesn't mean it doesn't exist.
Wow, I didn't realize how many angry athiests there are on here. Oh well...

I don't believe in God because I just can't see the evidence for this. But you have a good question, yes I wish that there was, it would explain a lot of things for me, but it would also create a lot of new questions. Because if there is a God, why do bad things happen? I think that many people believe in God because it takes their fate out of their own hands and also gives a reason for unexplainable things ... like why tragedies happen, why quirks of fate happen. You can say that it is all God's will, and then you don't really have to think about it. I question too many things and can't see God in them.
However, the people I know who believe in God seem, to me, to be happier and more content. They have stopped searching and questioning and therefore their lives appear to be less complicated than for us atheists.
I probably haven't made much sense in this answer, but you raise an interesting point which has made a lot of us think.
Happy New Year

I believe in the existence of God. And God does exist. Let me give u an example.
As a house can't come into existence without being designed by a civil engineer.. then how can this Huge enormous Universe, which is in a harmony can come into existence by itself ???
The holy Qur'an says about the creation of universe in Surah Al-Ambiya, Chapter 21, verse no. 30. It says:
" Do the Unbelievers not see, that the heavens and the earth were of one piece, and We clove them as under. "
The Qur'an Speak about THE BIG BANG theory 14 hundred yrs ago.
There are more than a thousand scientific verses in the holy Quran and there is not a single confliction and contradiction in the whole Qur'an. Who could have mentioned these scientific verses 14 hundred yrs ago that conciliates with the modern science. ??
Allah, The Almighty God, himself has proven His existence in the Holy Qur'an....

Could you imagine a world in which the old school God of the bible existed? That guy was wicked mean to his beloved children.
On one hand, it would be a riotous blast watching all the chaos befallen on your fellow man. On the other hand, you would never know when god would decide to smite your entire community.
The fear and excitement would be too much for our modern brains to deal with. So, I'm glad god retired and we just have to worry about each other now.

Its so subjective isn't it? Look at the trouble belief in a god one way or another has caused? Before everyone jumps on me, I am not saying God- in whichever incarnation via religion you mean, has caused it. People cause it by using God as a means to subjugate others.
I tend to think people ought to concentrate on treating people better because That's the way it should be rather than for any heavenly reasons. The belief in god allows people to be superior and cruel.

I have a lot of atheist friends and they get so revved up about there being no God. I dontunderstandwhy atheist are so pushy about it. I would assume it isbecause somewhere deep down they Do wish they believed and are in a way jealous of those who do.

i don't think you can wish God is real unless you know he isn't real, and no-one can know that. i think, if your an atheist, and wish god was real, become religious, then you can believe, whether its true or not. i'm sort of stuck in the middle at the moment, but i believe that there must be someone out there, but i'm so confused about it all. :-s

Everyone would love to not be accountable for their actions. Satan does not want anyone to believe that God exists, He would rather have us die. He is a liar, and" the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." So of course many today either ignore or deny Jehovahs existence. Deep down they know that this world, the intricate way that it works, the human brain, it did not all happen by chance. It is a personal choice to deny Gods existence, no one should be forced to serve God, but he sounds a warning that he wont tolerate sin, injustice and indifference much longer. That is why Jehovah's Witnesses preach the good news, to warn and comfort those who are meek and humble, so that they can survive the tribulation that is fast approaching. It is a work of love on Jehovah's part and he does not desire any to be destroyed. Draw close to God and he will draw close to you. James 4:8

I'm an atheist, and I definitely wish there were a god. I would much rather there were an omnipotent protector watching over me, and an eternity in heaven after I die. But there isn't, and I can deal with that.

Nobody is forced to believe, but those who attack the beleiver is being rather arrogant. Just because some people can't hack a bit of bad luck doesn't mean there is no god.
