My brother awoke screaming and crying saying that a demon wanted to take him, or something like that. He says he wasn't crying from fright, more of an uncontrollable crying. He's 23, and it's never happened to him before, so what does it mean? I've also had a strange experiece, like my blankets being pulled off.

I don't think he's crazy, because it only happened once.

I know the Bible warns against spiritism. Are you involved with any spiritistic practices, like the Ouija board, palm reading, etc. you would want to end this, and then I would suggest praying about it.

Possible, I suppose. Much depends on what your brother experienced before he awoke...
There is a phenomenon called "night terror," in which you feel a weight pressing down on your chest, and often hear strange voices or have the feeling there are little creatures around, watching you. People often associate this with demonic possession or alien visitation, but it's totally physiological.

If you were under demonic attack, chances are you would be very aware that something odd was happening. If you think this might be the case, the key would be to maintain control of your emotions; remain peaceful DO NOT give in to fear. Remember that you're a child of God. As they say in "A Course in Miracles":
Nothing real can hurt you
Nothing unreal exists
Therein lies the peace of God.

By the same token, guilt, anger, and fear can undermine your power. If you or your brother (or anyone else in the house) is holding on to some dark secret, or has some other "issue," it needs to come out. You have to have absolute integrtiy and self-esteem in order to stand up against this kind of thing. If you doubt yourself, try consulting a spiritual advisor.

I believe people can be possessed by demons, but I don't really think your situation is one of them. has your brother just recently been saved?? the reason I ask is because perhaps they are trying to scare him into backsliding and straying away from God. it has happened to my mother before. she was asleep, and she dreamed this "demon dog" as she called it was standing over her and growling, and she knew it wanted to kill her, so she said "help me Jesus" or " in the name of Jesus" and it was gone...but the next morning, i came in as she was getting ready to make her bed up, and so i went to the other side to help, and when she pulled the sheets back, there was red clay, claw marks on the sheets. the same side where she was sleeping. She had been saved just a few weeks before that happened. scary huh? but anyway, if it is still bothering your brother, then tell him to pray about it...God will protect him, and the rest of your family...demons cannot harm any of God's children..he may try, but if your saved and cleansed by the blood of Jesus, then no harm can come to you, or your family. pray about it, and ask him to protect you, keep hold of your faith, and stay close to God.

God bless, and I hope this helps you some.

Have you taken him to a good psychaitrist? More than likely he is suffering from an illness that needs attantion. I mean this as positive advise and not negative. If a person is having delusions and is not treated this could lead to very dangerous situations.

Just because it goes Bump! in the night doesn't make it a demon. Chillax a little. Whatever's trying to speak to you is probably more terrified than you are with all the screaming and yelling.

Uncontrollable crying is not much of a basis for assuming demonic possession, even if such a thing actually existed (which there is no convincing proof of except for anecdotal evidence from very biased, credulous participants) What you describe, and you aren't giving enough information for me to be more accurate could be a result of what is known as sleep paralysis which occurs during hypnogogia wherein you are in between sleep and awake states and may interpret certain events to be the result of a paranormal experience, when, in fact, they are quite a natural phenomena. night terrors are a possibility also...Read more:

Speaking from years of personal experience on this one. Most people don't believe in demonic spirits until they have a personal encounter with one, and are no longer able to deny the reality of them. They often attack people while in a dream state, because that is when they are most vulnerable. But depending on what you and your brother are involved with (let's use witchcraft, or drug and alcohol abuse for examples), you could possibly be "opening the door" for much worse or more powerful manifestations. Anyone that is not "born-again" and living with God in their heart is a "legal target" for demonic attack. That is to say, you have no protection against anything that they might try to do to harm you. The truth is, if you have been experiencing any level of demonic manifestation, you have them hanging around you all the time and have been under their influence for an extended period of time without knowing it. Again, this is because of your spiritual positioning, and because of things that you are doing or allowing in your life. Even if you are a "child of God" (believer in Jesus Christ, one that has been born again), you could still be vulnerable to an attack because you have not seperated yourself from the elements of the life you had prior to coming to God in Christ. A believer in Christ must have an awareness of his God-given authority in Christ from a scriptural perspective to have any hope of taking control over the devil. satan feeds off of ignorance and fear - the weaknesses of humanity. He is a liar, and would like to have everyone believe that God is either non-existent, or having no power, or somewhere far removed and not concerned with the affairs of men. But none of those things are true. The way to God is through belief in Jesus Christ. The devil has no power over anyone that is in Christ, that is the bottom line. If you are in Christ, he has to do whatever you tell him.

Years ago my children had similar experiences at separate times in separate places and were truly frightened. I believe that demons exist and do harass people, but in this type of thing it's not possession. Demons can only possess those who invite them in, through the practice of the occult or witchcraft, and sorcery. Unless you and your brother have been dabbling in it, there is no need to call the priests or exorcists. You just need the Light of Jesus to fill your life, and the dark entities will leave.

This sounds fairly serious, what you might want to do as sort of a preemptive measure is dump a bucket of salt water over his head, while making him stand on one foot and humming the theme from "Dukes of Hazzard"

Your brother may have had a terrible nightmare. Your feet can do some strange contortions in the night, pulling your blankets off.
While I believe demons exist, I really don't think what you are describing seems like anything demonic. On the other hand, Satan loves to play on our fears. If he sees you are afraid, he wins, even without any need for demonic possession. "He that is within us (Christ) is greater than he that is in the world (Satan)."
