FYI - when I say "joke" I dont mean it in the context of "haha funny" The CoS created by LeVay was created to make HIM money, not to worship an actual being or deity. I say its a joke because its a bullshitscam brought out by a slacker who didnt have the energy to get a real job. I personally, am in a struggle/study over religion, so Im just searching the opinions of others for entertainment purposes

Apparently there are a lot of "non-readers" out there......I CLEARLY explained that I UNDERSTAND the CoS is NOT AN ACTUAL JOKE, but that its basis, beliefs and founder did it JUST TO MAKE MONEY and NO NOT WORSHIP AN ACTUAL BEING, DEITY, SPIRIT, DEMON, ETC !!

Obviously you have no idea what the religion consists of - Satan being the World......Wow, you are retarded in so many shapes and forms.....Also, Im not downplaying, nor am I slamming the actual worship of the DEVIL (AKA - Satan) in its true form, but the CoS and its version of it.

Just to write a book is quite a task. Your use of "real job" is merely subjective; what constitutes a "real job?" Clearly LeVay wasn't one to work for someone else, as a faceless cog in a giant corporate wheel.

His church holds together as much as any other religion, so if you're studying religion as a whole you shouldn't condemn this one simply because it casts aside the "values" of submission to a so-called "higher will." (Or is your condemnation simply the knee-jerk reaction of someone raised as a Christian? That'spretty much what LaVey was relying on -- some react with automatic anger & revulsion, while others react with automatic interest, all because of their pre-conditioning in Christian dogma, and how they feel about themselves in relation to the church's morality.)

You should think about looking into Existentialism, an atheistic philosophy (not a religion). From a morality perspective, it's justifications are similar to Satanism, except totally non-religious. The idea is that the individual is the only real power, and morality based on some religious concept is a delusion.

I'd recommend something by Jean-Paul Sartre, like "The Flies."

No more a joke than any other "Church" that is out to make money for itself (which is probably a good 90% of all of the Churches out there, including those within Paganism). As for the people who are members of the Church of Satan, I don't believe they are a joke. They must agree, at the least, with the basics LaVey had set out to make this church to begin with. And I"m sure there are several people who take it very seriously.

No - actually the Church of Satan is a viable and active spiritual system based on self-pleasure. The ultimate goal of CoS-ism is to pleasure yourself and that asceticism and self-restraint are actually deceptions. But of course, this is a simple generalization. However if you make a list of religions that aren't a joke based on the criteria that they are not founded either to get money from people (or exert control over people) you will have a very short list.

Satanism is an inverted form of Christianity practiced by renegade Christians to get back at the religion. If they grow up, they will no longer need to worship a being that doesn't really exist anyway.

Of course it is not a joke. But it is a sad travisty. To be living to (supposedly) please yourself and to live for pleasure is the ironic thing about it. Satan (the father of lies) has only mislead his followers that "do what thou wilt" is the ultimate pleasure. Denying what is most pleasurable which is God himself. They are happy to say "Look at my little traugh that I made! I have so much delight and joy in my little 4 foot traugh! Look and be amazed at it! All the while behind them is the Grand Canyon. Why believe in a fallen creature rather than Glory in the one who created you, Jesus Christ.

The problem is with mankind, is that we settle to easily for little pleasures (sex, drunkeness, power, fame, money) that fade and do not satisfy (hence we have to go back to it over and over again) and do not work to attain the greatest pleasure, the "immeasurable riches" which is Christ.
