It is possible to be a lab rat without doing on scene investigations. If you ever want to do field work, you will need to be a peace officer of some sort. I am in my mid forty’s now and have been an LEO since I was 21. I never had any problems with all the bodies because you just process everything you do as part of the job. Then all of a sudden you realize they numb the mind and take their toll while you are totally unaware of what is happening. I make 80k a year and can say the work has not been bad but after all these years I have got some damaged goods and it just kind of sneaks up on you so be careful that you balance your workload with activities that clear your head.

Just so you know, the whole "CSI" thing is a Hollywood make believe show. In the real world, the Detectives run the scene and conduct the investigation. The Crime Scene Technicians just collect evidence and take photos and such.

The reason I am telling you this is because so many young people think that "Oh, I want to do that". But, to be a Detective takes years of hard work and training on the street and then you need to get promoted to the position.

CSI is not the same as a police or investigator. We are separate teams working for the same goal: find the truth. I not only am a Special Investigator but I am the founder and director of the International Family Aid & Support Center. Our investigations division is called IFASC-Bureau of Special Investigations, and we work with the authorities in many countries in conducting administrative, civil and criminal investigations.

It is hard work, but it is fantastic. Ask your local police if you can talk to people in the trhee professions you mention, about their experience.
