Digital camera is best for taking still picture and camcorder is best for recording video. Digital camera that can record video will require a lot of light but camcorder can do it easily. More ever you can take snapshots with camcorder too (even you are in a recording mode). But with Digital camera that has better mega pixels can capture a big resolution picture what camcorder can't do (even they are same in price).

Get a digital video camcorder. Minidv if you plan on editing them and adding music, titles, etc. or dvd if you want to just shoot and watch (this format is pretty much impossible to edit). The consumer camcorders (anywhere from $300-1000) also have digital still functions with lots of MPs, so they function as a digital still camera as well, although quality probably isnt as comparable.
