What about Glass Candle Lantern Vases filled with sand and sea shells with a candle in the middle. These look beautiful as the evening progresses. You could write all the guests names on shells on the table.
Orchids in tall vases upside down filled with water look classy and last a long time.
If you go for a beachy hawiian theme you will stay away from all the tacky stuff that is out there.

Good Luck. It sounds great!

You should do some floating candles in large bowls at the tables. Also, someone should be at the door and putting lais on the people as they come in the door. Also, you could use some whit lights, they always bring things together. Some nice plants real or fake would be nice as well. You could put some seashell in the center piece some how with some orchids and some hibiscus flowers. Try some tiki torches as well to use outside or even being inside if you want. You could use coconuts also and some tropical fruit as part of the meal.. hope this helps.

Awesome idea!

Be careful, though, as I'm sure you're finding, it's so easy to buy cheap and tacky decorations and that's probably NOT what you want!

For a centerpiece, I would consider using a simple orchid. You could vary the colors-- they're usually purple, pink, and white or some combination. They're very elegant and tropical!

As for leis, don't purchase silk ones, onless they're for guests. You can have real leis shipped express from Hawaii and they are absolutely worth every penny. They smell amazing and dry really well (most of the time!)

Try to stay away from party stores for decorations and go to more authentic Hawaiian stores (mostly online, I suppose).

You can use coconuts and tropical fruits as appetizers. Pass out lais for your guests. Use beautiful tropical flowers for your table centerpieces. I might go as far as having the reception after dark so you can have tiki torches.
