The right way to measure reach is to extend both arms to the side and to measure from fingertip to fingertip left to right. It should be close to a person's height. Example: If you are 6 foot tall you will probably have a reach of about 72 inches. Ali was about 6'3 and had a reach of about 80 inches I believe.

As the famous boxing commentator Jim Lampley says "the reach is measured from the armpit to the end of the fist." I believe he says this during the Tale of the Tape segment before every fight.

Reach would be the Armpit to the tip of finger, but no, the way they measure reach is fingertip to fingertip with arms extended. Basically your wingspan. Its close to your height (like someome said above). Like i think Lenord Pierre (i use him because i watched this just today) is 5-8 and his reach is somewhere around 68 or somethin. And i know damn well his arm aint that long.
