I would like to know more about how peripherals are connected to the television. For example AV1 AV2 whdoes it mean? What are the rules for say attaching a video, DVD player? You catch my drift?

Most User manual for TVs have good info as well. Just go say to Sony and downlaod and read any of the TV manuals

on a standard television the AV inputs are for peripherals such as dvd/video players sky boxes and games consoles etc-these are connected using the scart inputs on your tv set (the 21 pin multisocket on your tv's rear panel). sometimes when you switch on a peripheral it will override the channel you are watching-do not worry about this it is perfectly normal and to continue watching the desired channel just press the channel number on your remote. to watch the dvd player etc press the "av" function on your remote and you will enjoy superior sound and picture quality
