lying, cheating them out of something, take advantage.. I have seen so many families ruined because of how they treat and are treated by family. Like a son who borrows some tools and never brings them back so you tell them you will build a storage building for them and they say great thanks. Then when they ask why are you being so nice to offer to build a storage building and then you say so you can keep my tools and everything else you borrowed in a safe place. They are clueless !!

I think most family members think they can get by with taking advantage of other family members because they think that because they are family that you wont press the issue with them to keep down family trouble. But I for one feel that the legal system is the best way to handle family matters.
one example of this that happened to me; I sold a home of mine on a land contract to a nephew of mine he paid on it for 1 year, and stopped paying on it I made every effort to work out a solution with him and he avoided me I foreclosed on him, then contacted him to give him the oppertunity to remove his belongings from the property, I gave him 30 days, then extended it for 14 more days then I went in and hauled the stuff to the salvation army. But I let everyone in the family know that if you treat me with respect I will return it to you but if you try to get over on me then I will treat you like a stranger.

As young children we all have taken our parents for a ride one way or another, and they never had any clue, this what every generation does with previous one before the latter learns to wise up, it is the part of growing up all parents need to do, when they are compelled to by their children, otherwise they easily get beguiled by their kids.
Kids learn to manipulate their parents to get things their way, they would cry and plead even throw tantrums to get things their way, some kids unlearn it as they grow, and some never do. Some go on to pass it on to their kids as it seems to happen in this case, where kids have learn to disrespect their parents and treat them dispassionately as they never learned to value them or their gifts, as a fact we learn all that we know right here at home, one way or another.
So the onus is really on us whether we want to unlearn what is not working in our family, other than that it is just something that would keeps us bound to unhealthy habits and practices that has led to the ruining of so many families, and mostly because a loving set of parent forgot to teach their children about respect and responsibility as it seems to have happen in this case.
We all have something in our family history that we need to forget and recreate our mental make up so that we start afresh a new, life, a life that is created by only us and our pure intention to lead a better life than our previous generation and that is how we evolve as a human species, all of us.

Human nature to be clueless when it comes to the people you know who will be there no matter what. That or you just have really dumb kids.
