If they are active and growing then whole milk with vitamin D...in growing phases, humans can consume carbs, fats and proteins in much higher levels than adults and it is healthy. People who say that milk is not needed after infancy are reflecting an Asian attitude.

Notice the height difference of Japanese 40 years ago (no milk, average height 4'10") and today (growing children given milk and average height of 5'11")

Note: whole milk has 3.2% milkfat, not 4%.

You don't really need the extra fat in the milk to benefit from the calcium and vitamin D. It will only add weight to you and clog arteries over the yrs. Unless you are trying to bulk up anyway or are underweight. I would go with the lower one or maybe a 2% product might taste better. The lower the fat content the crappier the milk tastes, but regular is around 3 % milkfat and you can't really taste much difference in a 2%. Skim milk tastes like water to me.

Full fat milk is recommended for children under five. Everyone older should drink semi-skimmed milk. It is lower in calories but has more of the nutrients than skimmed milk.

Weaned humans dont need milk at all BUT if it has to be part of a diet I would say skim organic milk. Regular milk is high in fat and all milk is all sugar (look at the label). You can find the same amount of calcium plus other essential nutrients in broccoli and other dark leafy greens.

we.. i would say it depends on the 16 yr old. if he or she is extremely skinny go with whole milk that has over 4% fat, if they r average weight get whichever they like best, if they r a bit on the heavy side i would def go with fat free skim milk. the stature should be the deciding factor, NOT the age
