Keep this thought: " whatever is going on in my life (good/bad), it will be better if I'm fit.
I was fat 12 years ago, no more! The energy you'lll feel after getting in better shape is great. Trotting up the stairs you used to climb.
To those who claim you won't live any longer by exercising, say " it's about how great I feel right now"

Consider your age in planning the beginning intensity. Getting older isn't for sissies. ;)

Routine: Find a time of day/night that works best for you, then stick to that time.

Find out how food mixes with your exercise routine. You need some fuel to engage in exercise, but a full stomach churning around while active can feel rotten.

Lift weights a couple of times a week. Aerobic type exercise the other days. Pick your style...formal dance about classes @ the gym, or a treadmill (or even just a jump rope) at home.

Carbs are energy, meat is is protein, IMHO we are carnivores designed to eat both. Protein after weight training is vital.

I'm mature, follow the above, and take great pride in being in very decent shape compared to most folks my age. (and plenty younger too)

Bodybuilding.com great info for weight and aero (cardio)

Do it for you.
Good Luck

I'm not sure what to say because it baffles me how people can remain sedentary ALL DAY for months, or even years at a time. The human body was not meant to sit all day and never work up a sweat. If you can get to the point where not being active feels disgusting, you'll stick with it. I'm sorry if that doesn't help much, but think of sticking with a healthy diet and exercise plan as a life or death situation.

If you walk three times a week for 45 minutes, you will loose around 24 pounds in one year without even changing your diet. Start out slow and work your way up. Maybe start at a 20 minute walk then move to a 25 and so on until you reach 45. To loose even more weight make sure that you are eating right and cutting down on cokes! Drinking two cokes a day adds an extra 5 pounds a month!! Eating a little healthier, cutting out cokes, and waking for 45 minutes will help ya loose at least 30-35 pounds in a year. Hope this helps ya!

I truely would suggest walking.

Any time of day, whenever you can find time, go for a walk. Find a friend or family member to walk with if you can...its a great way to spend time with someone you love, and it passes the time (as walking CAN get boring)...

In order to stick with something, you need to enjoy doing it. Find an activitiy that you really really enjoy. I'm not a big sports fan...however I do really enjoy swimming. Swimming can be quite difficult to do in the winter but there is a community center in my town that has an indoor pool and the cost is only about two dollars daily!...

I'm also getting back on the exercise track. One thing I really enjoy doing is walking around the mall (I'm not a big money spender, If you cant stop yourself from spending money ..this isnt a good idea)..... Walking around the mall with my boyfriend does some good..... theirs a subway there so we got a bite to eat and then walked for a while.. Thers a lot of neat things to see in a mall (pet shops, strange people lol...etc..) and its probably more appealing to walk indoors during the cold seasons.

Adding any type of activity is beneficial. Park your car far away from the entrance of a store.... etc...

Start slow!!! Don't try to train for a marathon just yet. I would invest in a pair of walking shoes and start walking outside. It's an inexpensive way to start exercising and it's nice to get out of the house (yes, even when it's cold.) However, the most important thing is to do an activity that you would enjoy doing. Are you spiritual in nature? Try yoga. Prefer solo activities? Walking or running may be for you. Are you a social butterfly? Join a group fitness class (many community centers offer them inexpensively.) Good luck!

I suggest with a few minutes doing Aerobic/ fat-burning IE: sart at 5-10 minutes and increase time and intensity incrementally. Also weight lift using low weight and high reps. This will maximize your fat-burning potential. Stick to a protein rich diet and control your caloric intake. Take in less than 30% of your total calories a day from fat.

Sit down and ask yourself would I rather run or walk. Then ask will I get up early to do this?, or at my lunch?, or after work? When you decide what you want to do and when. Write it down in your appointment book . This way you know that it is a priority for you to do it. Start out slowly then each week add 10 minutes till you reach a hour at a time or break it up during the day till is is one hour. Do this 5 days a week. Good luck.

You should start with something you're interested in. Team sports? Call your county rec association to find out when and where drop-in games are available.
Interested in weight lifting? Start with that.
Need to know how to start weight lifting? Check your library for DVDs (or Blockbuster).

South Beach diet is a nice effective diet because it is low carb and not starvation and it's supported with food you can buy already made in your grocery store. Check online here for requirements:

I would write it down, my belief if you don't write it down it doesn't work..
Second do a step-by-step thing "just today I will diet and exercise" do this everyday, then you will just be in a habit...
Third have fun doing it!!
Forth Happy New Year I hope you accomplish all that you want in this up and coming year
