Wait until it is completely healed before you attempt to shave. If you try and do it now, you could get an infection or ruin the color. Once it stops flaking, give it another week or so to make sure it's totally healed. I have a tattoo on my ankle and I shaved around it until it healed. It looked kind of funny for a while, but oh well. I'd rather have hairy legs than risk ruining an expensive piece of artwork.

Wait until it is completely healed. If it's not healed and you shave, you can damage the tattoo and have to get it retouched. I got one on my ankle and couldn't shave for a little over 2 weeks. It's all good, I was still showing off my tat, hairy ankle and all. You might find some help at tattoo.about.com

It's best to wait until the tattoo is completely healed and the scab has fallen off naturally. You can certainly shave the area around the tattoo, but it's best not to try shaving the tattoo until the skin feels completely smooth (aside from the stubble).

I have 3 tattoos and although they are on places that don't need to be shaved. I would wait another week or more as the skin is still sensitive and it would be a shame to irritate the skin even more. I was given an excellent cream for my tattooist, called tattoo goo and it prevented any leaking or scabbing and my skin was smooth 3 weeks after having them done

i am a co-owner of a tattoo shop and no you dont have to wait to shave because after the first three days of having the tattoo the ink really is not going to come out if you shave just do not push very hard with the razor and you should be fine, as long as you just like likely skim across the top of it and then when you are done shaving just put a non scented lotion on it and you should be fine!!! don't worry once the ink is in your skin it is hard for it too go any where the only way is if you get a bad sun burn on it!! other then that hopefully you enjoy it and take good care of it you'll be fine

Wait until it is healed completely before shaving your legs. Obviously you can shave the rest of your leg, but leave the tattoo area well clear.

I got a tattoo on my leg above my ankle..it was a fairy. I shaved around it, but never over it until it was smooth and totally healed. ...Towards the end of my healing, My fairy had hairy arms:P...and some wicked facial hair. I tell you what, I was so relieved when i finally could shave over my tattoo.

OUCH! I would definitely wait a week to make sure that the skin heals there. Are you using a good moisturizer? Nut Body Butter by The Body Shop works great on Tats.

Wait to shave! Its more the ruining of the tattoo then the pain to worry about. All you need to do is catch one small bit of the scab with the razer and - rip - yuck, goes your new art. You can make it. Wait about another week until all the scab and dry skin has gone.

I am no expert but I do have several tat's. one of which is also on my ankle. I know I shaved my legs during the healing but I did not shave over the tat. I would think that would not be a good idea.
good luck.
