She's a 9 month old pug. Her bowel movements are normal, we feed her hard food. She started 'scooting' 3 days ago, so i called the vet, they said it means her anal gland needs to be emptied. So we took her there yesterday. But this morning after she went out to do her business, she scooted again after she came back in. Did they not empty it properly? Or is it something else?

It may still be bothering her. Give it a few days and that usually is the reason for scooting. After having it expressed and then having a bowel movement it may be sensitive. Someone finger was just up her butt. Hopefully it was done properly it is tricky and I refuse to do it myself.

She is probably irritated from the recent activity down there. Contrary to popular belief, dogs do not generally scoot when they have worms. I work at a veterinary clinic and nine times out of ten it is an anal gland problem. I'm not proud of it, but, I've emptied plenty myself and I am not a veterinarian, so, you should be pretty confident that they did it properly. Unfortunately, your dog is pretty young to have this problem and it can mean that it may be a regular occurance. We have many dogs that come in every month to every couple months to have their dogs anals done. The comment before thinks the vet. is duping you just because they never heard of this problem, but, it is very common and can be managed. Although, it never hurts to have her on a regular worming program and I would recommend it. Hope all is well! (If this is something she will need to have done often, ask your primary care veterinarian for a topical ointment that may help alleviate any uncomfortable irritation she may experience after her visit.)

Like someone else said, that area may just be irritated. I'd give it a a couple more days. If she continues to do it, call your vet, it's possible that there is a slight infection that the vet didn't catch. It could also be that she just has an itchy butt.
I doubt that it's worms, contrary to popular belief, that is not a sign of worms. But, if you haven't had her stool checked, you might want to take a sample in to have checked by the vet.

I took Lili and Schatzi (Chiuhuahuas) to the vet yesterday and Schatzi is still scoot, boot and boogie. The vet will automatically check for worms, at least my vet does. No worms, and after the gland is expressed the come out of vet happy and excited. If and when you take your dog to vet ask them if they will check for worms. Doesn't hurt to ask. I thought it would be expensive. $10 each. Good Luck! It is sad to watch your dog do that

It could be that there is a problem with the anal sacs. Some dogs need to have them expressed frequently (not every three days, though!!) But they can get infected or impacted. Most technicians and doctors are properly trained to empty anal sacs correctly, but possibly they weren't completely emptied. Or if she seems painful in that area or extra-stinky (not that you're smelling it on purpose!) then they could be infected. It could possibly be worms, but most monthly heart worm preventatives like Revolution also take care of most worms (please tell me you have her on one of these!) It could just be a temporary bad habit, too. Dogs do get bad habits!

Sometimes a sign the dog needs wormed or just an itchy a.ss Never heard of a vet emptying an anal gland before , are you sure your vet isnt robbing you? My dog did this sometimes but ate grass around the same time , seemed to put right whatever the problem was.

She could have worms. check her stool for blood. Even if there is not blood though, she could still have worms. You might be able to see the worms in her stool. Which is why after her businses she did it. The worms itch. Or... They may not have gotten all the gland fluid out. Or... she may just have a itchy butt.

You might have her checked for worms, which will also cause the butt scooting.
I am surprised that the vet did not suggest that.
