I purchased a few of gallons of paint a couple of weeks ago and am just now ready to actually use them. Should I take them back to the store to have them put in the "shaker" machine or will stiring them with the wooden stick be suffice?

Tim r is right, but I would add that it might depend on the sheen of the paint. The glossier the paint, the more shaking is required. Also, Tim r should have mentioned the reason you need to mix the gallons together is to make sure that the colors match. There are differences in color between gallons because humans are involved when the gallons were tinted. A tiny drop of pigment can cause a color difference that might not noticed until the paint dries.

I don't think there is any need to go back to the paint store and have the paint shaken again. I would recommend stirring each can using a paint stick. Stir them for about 5 minutes each and make sure you stir from the bottom up just in case some settling has occurred. I would also take the gallons of paint and "box" them. Get a 5 gallon bucket and pour all the cans into it and mix them together to ensure that the color will match throughout. If you don't have the ability to do this, then try to stop painting in an inside corner of the room. You can then start the next gallon from there and the different in paint color will be less noticeable.

OK .FIRS LY THERE ARE ONLY FOUR MANUFACTURES OF PAINT IN THE USA. with that said these guys sell to all the three paint stores ,you have told me about , i use Lowe's paint , as it covers well. has no harm full poisons and is Pretty cheap, my second choice would be S&W you get a thicker type of paint ,which you can use 10% water in to help thin it out ,but you will pay more long term .

Use a 5 gallon bucket, pour both gallons into it, stir, stir, sitr. Pour back into the gallon buckets, stir some more. Have fun.

shake the can yourself for a few minutes first. then after you open them, you can stir the paint up more if you think it needs it.
