I don't lke lies and deceit. What do you think. I know a few people that what ever comes out of their mouths are lies. One after, another. To lie about a party to surprise someone, okay. Why do we lie? Our insecurities. Input please.

Some lie because of insecurities. Others lie because of the desire to manipulate others, especially those that they have strong feelings for over a sense of leverage. I prefer the truth because at least you can be empowered to decide what you want based on what is known without wasting time. I feel that sometimes folks lie about stuff because they're not confident enough about themselves to allow others to really understand themselves on a REAL level. I guess you can say that confidence plays a part with being secure.

Well it seems that we who truly value the truth, don't really fit in with others... I mean, I am always honest, and I don't see the point in lies... Therefore I xpect others not to lye me. But when they do, I am so disappointed... I even tell every guy on the beginning of our relationship that I despise lies, and if he lies me, I'll break up instantly... You can guess that I'm leading 98 towards 2 % in breaking up...
I approve white lies, such as when mother is cooking something all day, and when you try you want to puke.. But then I still say it's delicious... Or the party thing you mentioned...
Why do we lie? Well, we want to look better in eyes of the people... So why bother trying to be really better when you can tell a lie in second? I guess that's the reason.
Or some of my X bfs , when I asked them why they lied to me, they told me that they never wanted to hurt me. So it's better to lie, than to tell the truth and risk in disappointing me... How stupid...
For sincere people out there who value the truth I wish that we find someone who could appreciate this virtue...

Two part answer:

1st: The Truth is the truth. No one can deny that there is one correct answer to each and every question, and yet, everyone insists that their version of the answer is the truth; it's got truthiness.

2nd: Most people are too easily fooled by lies. No one wants to check sources and verify claims anymore. You would think this would not be the case what with the internet and all. But people take claims at face value, and fall prey to truth-spinners, and bias.

If I knew the answer to why people lie I could be a billionaire. If only people realized that being honest was the best way to go life would be easier for everyone. But human nature being what it is there will always be liars and the rest of us just have to learn to live with them. That does not mean we ever have to put any trust in them because that would make us stupid but we do have to share the planet.

Honesty is important. But I do believe there are times when not telling the truth, stretching the truth, or telling a little lie is the best policy.

Also, honesty is about more than just telling the truth. Honesty is about acting in a way that is not harmful to others.

Truth is a good thing. But we don't live in a "black and white" world, no matter what people would like to think. Sometimes a lie is the best solution to a very real problem.

I know what you mean, to me the truth is very important and to some people it's like there is no difference between the truth and a lie, they even lie when they don't even have the need to, it makes no difference to them.

Trust = Trustworthiness.

There are few things more precious than being trustworthy.

Ask yourself how much you value trust, and what should tell you whether it's ok to lie.

We lie because it is a way to avoid reality, and a shortcut to get what we want without paying the price.

I find honesty utterly critical in my relationships.

The fact there was some lying by my previous gf and bf help lead to my breaking up with them.

Since, I've ceased even talking to my ex-gf, because she implied I had acted dishonestly. Needless to say, I had not.

I hurt my first gf because I lied to "protect" her feelings. I swore I'd never, ever lie to a lover or prospective lover again. In 35 years, I've been able to maintain that oath.
