Well, this could fall under the CATaGORY,(lol) of a Wifes tale. Some (many many) years back, animals were related to and blamed for several things in witchcraft. I do not know for certain, but I'd almost bet thats where it came from. And your answer people are correct. Us old people say some pretty strange things! Haven't heard that saying for years!

I think it's part of your native culture. I think it's safe to say here in the US we don't know that one.....
My grandparents used to say: "Madder than a wet hen", "Running around like a chicken with it's head cut off" They were farmers.
Of course there's "It's raining cats & dogs".

I have never ever heard anybody say that and I have a very good friend who is 86 so it's not like I don't know any old people.

it is a very old european superstition. for many many years people believed cats were related to witchcraft and witchery, and folk sayings evolved from these times.

that one i haven't heard but my dede (grandfather) says silly things like that all the time, i even remember him singing to me silly things like that as a kid.. one song was about "building him a palace not laying on the floor" lol every now and then he comes up with a new one to and they always humor me.. he's 92 now and still quick as a whip
