Religion teaches us that we are important and we will have an afterlife. If so, what was the purpose of this life? Seems a waste of time. Maybe it's just another fairytale?

there are many purposes for this life. although it is a minute fraction of the afterlife in terms of the time spent here, it is important nonetheless. We are here to earn heaven in the afterlife, we do not assume that simply by being a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim, a Buddhist etc. that you automatically find a place in heaven. Eternal life in heaven is earned through good deeds and seeking the truth and there can only be one truth. If so, you may ask that if someone is born a Jew, Buddhist, Hindu etc. then they will follow what their parents have but to be sure that we are not following faith blindly, we have to examine other religions, other than the one we have grown up with from an unbiased perspective and then decide for ourselves what to believe. As a Muslim, I believe that this life is also a series of tests. Because God is all - knowing, this life makes no difference to Him as He knows whether we are in the end going to Heaven or Hell. this life is for our own benefit because if it was not there and we ended up in Hell; because our minds are very limited we could not begin to understand God's unlimited knowledge. This however, in no way undermines our free will. if u want me to explain another time id be happy to do so.

Actually, some religions teach that you are an illusion, and in fact do not exist. To understand the purpose of your own existence would be to understand the purpose of everything, because the two are one. Now clean your bowl and study thirty more years.

To know, love and serve God in this world.
If this was the only life there was it could be considered pretty rotten. But then its people that make it rotten so our job is to listen to God and do His will. Then you have purpose and life doesn't look so rotten anymore. Consider it just a temporary
situation and your earning a much better life in a few years.

The Bible tells us that our purpose in life is to make sure that we spread the gospel. That is our "great commission" to spread the word about God. That way, we can receive His Grace and bring as many souls with us to Heaven as we can.

We are also to love another, as Christ loved us. THis is the best way to show His Love - to Love others.

Have a great day!

Ask God For your purpose.
Stop letting religion teach you and let Jesus teach you.
Life has a purpose the fall of man shown our selfishness now we have a chance to change our hearts and make selflessness a life choice.
Change someones life (for the better) in secret and never tell anyone about it and see how your life changes.

Forget the afterlife -- it may or may not exist. God sent each and every one of us here to make this world a better place for all of humanity. The sole purpose of the messiah is to bring peace on earth and justice for all, but he won't arrive until we start making some headway ourselves. Are you doing your part?

The Father created us with a purpose and a plan for our lives. To live for Him and fulfill the path that only He has chosen for our lives. If we are walking in His will then it won't be a waste of time, it will be edifying to Him and He will be pleased with us--and our reward will be in heaven with Him.

Think of it this way: all of us are in this giant boat called life. Either man the sails, row or bale water.
The idea is to make the ride work for everyone.

The purpose of this life is that you are not the center of life, but God is. When you accept the idea that you're there for God's pleaure and purposes, this will gife your life more purpose too.

You will never know the purpose for YOUR life, that will be determined after you are gone.To me, if adleast one person cries for their loss of you, then your life meant something.Life is for the living----purpose comes after....Good question.
