She really has not found a food that shee really likes and she seems scared of the dish we feed her with. She does not know what to do with treats, is there any help anyone can give?

She is 3months old. We feed her organic puppy food by Merrick. and her kibble is pro plan for puppies. We have 5 cats and she likes to sneak food from their dishes and kibble. My main concern is that she has become shaky because of her sugar, which we rectify right away. BUt just need some help. is a plate better that a bowl to feed her in?

you didnt say how old the dog is. if its old then go to vet. could be internal problems. if not then just feed it regular meals i.e. breakfast and dinner. and if it doesnt eat at one meal remove the food and give it back at dinner when it may be hungry enough to eat. again the vet may be able to check for physical problems.

picky eaters are made not born. Your constant swapping and changing of food doesn't help nor does the fact that she is eating cat food. Put the cat food up on a surface or somewhere up where she cannot get it. Buy a good puppy kibble and just leave the bowl down with a bowl of clean water always available and ignore it. Your stressing isn't helping. No healthy pup will starve itself to death with a bowl of food in front of it. You need to stop offering treats and put away the cat food so that she is actually hungry. By leaving a bowl of kibble down all the time, she can pick at it when she feels like it. They only have tiny tummies. If you are offering food right after she has eaten the cat food, she won't want to eat will she?
You must get this right unless you want a dog who loses it's teeth by the time it is a year old and suffers all kind of health problems because YOU have allowed her to be picky.

The only advice I can give is to find a small sized kibble and put it in the bowl and leave it there. (I would suggest IAMS as I've found that brand to be the best for dogs and cats) Do not feed it anything else and leave the dog to herself. Eventually she will get hungry enough to eat the kibble. I say "kibble" because it cleans the teeth as well as feeds the dog.Wet dog food is more of a danger to the dogs oral health than kibble is by far. The dog has natural cleaning agents in it's own saliva to be sure. But helping it along in her health is your responsibility. If the dog has nothing to eat but kibble sooner or later it will eat. Being scavengers by nature it will probably eat sooner.
Another point to consider for the dogs dental hygiene would be some rawhide. This is very much like a toothbrush for her. She's a yorkie so the small rawhides will do nicely once a day.
Hoping for the best with you and your canine.

my yorkie eats chicken a cook it for her and freeze it in seperate freezer bags so she has enough for a few meals. i mix it with a chicken and rice complete.when she was on dog food she was picky plus it made her ill.shes 11 now and doing really well.she used to be a fussy eater. the vet told me not to give into her and make her eat what i wanted her to eat.she went 4 days without eating as she was stubburn.also dont feed your yorkie in a big dish as she might be scared.i use a cat dish as my yorkie is small.my cat food gets lifted up where she cant reach it as this used to make her stink.good luck

Switching foods often will make a picker eater. The best thing to do is to find a good quality dog food and stick with it. I feed my Yorkie Royal Canin, the one specifically for the Yorkshire Terrier breed. Once you find a good quality food start off my mixing it with a little boiled chicken, it will make the food very palatable and will encourage the dog to eat.

If the dog likes the mixture keep it up and use a little less each time until it's eating it without!

yes..change the bowl to a flat one..then he she can see what is in there..My yorkie rosie is 5 months old and was the same.. sprinkle a few bits of biscuit outside her plate and this should lead her to her food..Dont worry if she is eating some of your cats food..They often prefer it to dog food.In fact my mum used to buy cat food for our other yorkie and loved it.There is little difference actually.treats will come with trust and time as she is little and young and not so trusting yet.Give her time to settle and if things dont improve then pop her to the vets just to make sure all is ok..They are known for being timid and not snappy as some may think.
Best wishes Kaeylarae xxxx

It's hard not to spoil Yorkies cos they are so cute! I've got one, and he is quite picky but i just put down the food and he either eats it or he doesnt. My Yorkie doesnt like treats or toys either. If scared of the dish, try another one. Something that is solid and doesnt rattle on the floor. Its all trial and error. But if you do spoil your dog you WILL know it cos they are very demanding and bright enough to rule the roost!

The most natural and healthy diet for humans is an omnivorous diet, and not a plant based diet, or a meat-based diet per se. The Paleo Diet can be very widely varied and omnivorous for the most part, but the most important thing is that it’s unprocessed, and avoids the worst foods that agriculture brought mankind… refined inflammatory vegetable oils, refined grains (some are worse than others), and sugar! Learn here https://tr.im/WREON

As you can see, the benefits of adopting a Paleo way of eating can be incredible! I’ve been eating 95% Paleo for the last 5-6 years and I’ve never felt better. I have dozens of friends that have adopted a more Paleo way of eating too, and have seen all sorts of health problems disappear, including eliminating acne and other skin problems, digestion problems, improving brain clarity, and of course, losing a lot of body fat!

Dogs become picky eaters because their owners teach them to be. Find a good quality food for your dog and stick with it. Changing their food is not good for them - you'll give your dog the runs. Do not give her people food or you'll never get her eating her dog food which she needs to be healthy!
