Water can appear green when light is refracted through it to separate white light into green light wavelengths. Additionally, phytoplankton may be present in the water. They may appear as a green discoloration of the water due to the presence of chlorophyll within their cells (although the actual color may vary with the species of phytoplankton present).

Basically water is colorless though it is often viewed as blue in the massive water bodies as the blue color of sky is reflected there or scattering of blue is there and sometimes due to the presence of cobult as in sea water.

But sometimes the pond water or the tank water is viewed as GREEN. It is mainly due to the presence of phytoplanctons and algae in the water.
