I have students ask me this all the time. The body of a Christian does not belong to him, it belongs to God. A married man's body also belongs to his wife. A man still living at home should honor his parents in all things. A Christian should avoid offending other, less mature Christians at almost any cost.
So, if you can get a tattoo without dishonoring God, upsetting your wife or parents, or hindering the Gospel message of Christ by something that is a distraction, then by all means, go for it. Remember, Paul said he never wanted to offend believers or non-believers, to the point that he would never eat meat again. He was willing to do this so that no one would make the mistake of even thinking he was eating meat that had been sacrificed to an idol, just in case that would upset anybody.
My personal advice is to stay away from trendy things like cartoon characters. Remember you'll still have it 100 years from now.

The Bible only addresses this issue in terms of the pagan practice of tattooing or piercing the body after the death of a family member. This was done to appease their gods or some such thing. Modern day tattooing has nothing to do with this kind of idolatry. One might conclude that tattoos for decorative purposes only are not against God's will. However, they can be construed as making for oneself a false idol. At any rate, the Christian God is a forgiving and loving God and I don't think whether or not one has a tattoo makes any difference when it comes to where they spend eternity.

Tattoos are forbidden in some Jewish groups and in Islam, however Christianity makes no judgement on it.
I myself find all tattoos ugly. They do not enhance the beauty of the natural body. If you want to make a statement then do it with a t-shirt.

Yes, of course. It's not a sin. My husband has 2 and he's a Christian. God looks on the inside, not on the outside. Whether or not you are a Christian doesn't depend on whether you get a tattoo or if you follow man made rules.

I think of tattoos as art . But the bible does say that your body is a temple and you should keep it pure. I have some tatts from before i was saved. I think its a sin to get more though. I am tempted too though because i love them.

You can get a tattoo as long as you are at peace with God about it. (not peace with the church, pastor, or people of the church, I mean with God himself)
The most important thing to God is your relationship with Him, If you feel that the tattoo will bring some hindrance I wouldn't go through with it.
