What is the best way to sell a very nice 2.5 carat wedding ring? We paid $9,000 for it and I really need to get some cash out of it. I am leary of selling on ebay. Cuz what if I ship it, & never see it again? Does anyone have any good suggestions? They would be greatly appreciated...help, I really need the money!

Well, if you used ebay and had to ship it, you could put a couple of options on the package like return receipt, signature deliver, etc., to make sure it gets where it's going. Also, you could insure the package, but I don't know if USPS will insure something for that large an amount.
You can also try craigslist, or advertise it in your local paper. Good luck!

Put i up for sale on Craigs list, or the local new Paper and Ebay is a god suggestion because you get the money first before the product is delivered and you insure it when delivered.
I have a 2 carat diamond ring I just got back from my Dog that swallowed it a few days ago. I had posted it on answers and everyone got a kick, but it really happened. I waited for two days and he pooped it out.
I have pics...lol
Anyhow, that is very nice ring at 2.5. I purchased my ring at a pawn shop and saved money, but hey what ever flows goes.
Right now, I can't buy it, but I might be able to buy it after income tax is filed..so if you still haven't sold it by then and I know you need the money right now, but I can't drum up $9,000.00 right now after just buying my Son a College graduation present a New 2006 Msutang last year. So if you can;'sale it..write me back and let me see what I can do! It sounds like a great ring compared to mine.

Sorry about your marriage :( I know it's never easy but if you are serious about selling your ring than I would get the full worth of it and the original paper work that came with the ring and sell it on ebay! That way you can get the most for it! Or you could even use the diamond and make some new jelwery for yourself! Just don't go to a pawn shop because they will rip you off!!

Why are you selling it? There are places that sell stuff on consignment, basically they hold it until someone buys it. Other then that I'm not sure, I know pawn shops do not give you anywhere close to what stuff is worth. I'd go through the phone book and just call some places and see if they buy or consign rings. And just so you know on your comment if you sell it on Ebay, ship it and never see it again, if you sell it you won't see it again either. You need to really make sure this is what you want before you do it then regret it later, if you're needing money there are places that give you payday loans. I don't think I could ever sell my wedding set, I lost my first one and to this day it kills me that I don't have it.

Put it on EBay but do not ship it till you receive the money. Make sure you have some good photos of it to put up there. I suggest you send it insured though when you do get the cash.If you get a check through the mail make sure it goes through the bank first before shipping it to make sure it clears before sending the ring. Hope this helps.
Another idea would be to check a jewelry store but make sure it is a good one. Do not try a pawn shop as you will get a lot less then it is worth. Good luck!

Somewhere like e-bay is best on the web but if you are in a hurry there are surely lots of local places that buy and sell jewelry. You are not going to get what you paid out of it you may not even get half but it is worth a trip in to a reputable dealer to see what you can do. Also the most money will be gotten from placing an ad in the local paper and selling it to an individual. i wish you luck

Some jewelers in larger cities (New York's jewelry district, etc.) buy used jewelry, but generally you will get nowhere near what you paid for it.
You could also try eBay and use the Escrow Service: http://pages.ebay.com/help/tp/payment-ov.html which would offer both you and the buyer more protection.
Advantages
* Payment is held by the escrow service until you receive and approve the item.
* For eBay transactions, you should only use eBay-approved escrow companies: Learn more about how escrow works and which sites are eBay approved.
Disadvantages
* There have been reports of fraudulent sellers using nonexistent escrow companies, so do your homework before using any escrow service other than eBay's recommended escrow partner.

you use paypal on ebay the person has to pay for it before you send it, there are also places that will sell it on ebay for you and keep a percent,
otherwise a pawn shop wont give you much,
you might go to someplace that makes jewelry and see what they can make nice for you instead of a wedding ring, you will never ever ever recover the 9K

I searched out a local jeweler who I not only sold the ring to, but who I knew wasn't going to resell it to someone else. I needed the money too, but the nagging thought of someone just starting out in a marriage wearing the ring from a bad marriage didn't set right with me. I made sure to sell it to a jeweler who was going to take the ring apart to use the diamonds and the gold in fresh new pieces of jewelry. In essence something good out of something bad. Just call your local jewelers to find out if they buy diamond rings (you might have to get specific) and to find out if they design their own jewelry. If they design their own jewelry chances are they'll buy the ring from you and dismantle it for other new pieces. I hope this helps and Good luck.

You might try a reputable jewelry shop, pawn shops will give you almost nothing and I would be leery about eBay, unless you received the money first.Good Luck.
