A good night, the best in a long time
A new friend turned me on to an old favorite
Nothing better than a dealer who's high
Be high, convince them to buy

What's my drug of choice?
Well, what have you got?
I don't go broke
And I do it a lot

Seems so sick to the hypocrite norm
Running their boring drills
But we are an elite race of our own
The stoners, junkies, and freaks

Are you happy? I am, man.

Content and fully aware
Money, status, nothing to me
'Cause your life is empty and bare

What's my drug of choice?
Well, what have you got?
I don't go broke
And I do it a lot
I do it a lot, yeah

You can't understand a user's mind
But try, with your books and degrees
If you let yourself go and opened your mind
I'll bet you'd be doing like me
And it ain't so bad

What's my drug of choice?
Well, what have you got?
I don't go broke
And I do it a lot
Say, I do it a lot!
I do it a lot!
I do it a lot!
Say, I do it a lot

Maybe drugs were only recently declared illegal, but they have always been harmful and a bad choice. Just for the record, according to the Bible we are to obey the laws of the land (Romans 13, 1st Peter 2) and drugs are illegal. This alone is enough to prove that believers in the Bible should leave drugs alone. But there is also the matter of intoxication or drunkenness which results in a loss of control just as drug use does. (See Romans 13 and 1st Cor. 6) This was a big no-no in Bible days and still is today. As for your main question...did people who wrote the Bible use drugs? It's highly unlikely because of the teachings against such lack of control over the flesh in those days. It is very clear that the Bible teaches against drug usage. Regardless of what people in Bible days did, we have to make the right choices here and now. Drug use is wrong for several very good and logical reasons. Personally I don't think those who followed the teachings of Jesus used drugs. They didn't need to. Knowing Jesus was an awesome natural high and no artificially induced stimulation was (or is) needed.

The most common argument to doing drugs; "It's natural, It shouldn't be illegal, and besides God made it". Well good point, God also made venomous spiders and poisonous mushrooms but nobody is eating them. God also made stones, but does God want you to throw stones at people? It's as if it has suddenly become something to rationalize with and accept because you enjoy them or the escape, this is a situation of enjoying sin. The habitual use of drugs may become mind altering and very likely damaging. That is, damaging considering the use of more intense drugs. Are drugs wrong? I sure don't think they're right; here are a few verses that might shed some light.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (ESV)
2 Peter 2:19 ..they themselves are slaves of corruption. For whatever overcomes a person, to that he is enslaved. (ESV)

The closest thing I have seen is Ephesians 5:18 which talks about not being drunk with wine but be filled with the Spirit. The idea is to not allow other forms to control but only God's Spirit. But of course the Bible is written to the followers of God not everyone in general. So if you do not follow God; it doesn't matter what you do except in the sense of how it adversly effects you and others. Good luck. Don't overdose or forget to go to work.

The topic of drug usage has always been fuzzy. The Bible says to take care of your body, but it also says that everything on this earth was put here for man's use. It does prohibit drunkenness, but as for being high, well, that's questionable.

BTW - great taste in music.

Being impared by alcohol [and drugs] is discouraged in the Bible.

Eph 5:18 - Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

When you praise Jesus in worship you need no drug. He gives you a natural high, joy beyond what the world offers.

Well, if you would continue in the line of Leviticus, I'd say drugs would be punishable by stoning.
However, in the New testamentic tradition, I'd say it's alright as long as you don't harm anyone, including yourself
