3) wait until they are sleeping and go through their stuff
4) buy or rent a police outfit, get a flashy light and mount it to your car. then pull them over and pretend to be a police officer asking for license and registration

you could call the local DMV but that is private private information and they dont give that kind of information just because you want it. there is info that is public (searchable on the net and obtained sometimes for a fee) and there is information that is not public (driver license #, social security #, these items can be used in identity fraud so it will not be easy to get anothers persons private info

The only legal way is to ask that person. If they don't want you to have it, you aren't entitled to it, and anybody that gives it to you is in violation of privacy laws, which could engender court action. For instance, if I were to give you the DL number of one of my clients, (I do have access to them) and it was found I had given it to you, I could be fined $10,000.
