In fact, the Old Testament specifies different punishments for murder and for causing a miscarriage.

Flawed arguments all over the place!
1) Of course it's not there, they didn't do that sort of thing back then. Life was valued. Additionally, many religious people believe that God did not stop talking to man, and therefore additional truths outside of the Bible could exist. The Bible did talk about life and the sacredness of procreating, which should be enough.
2) God does not produce spontaneous abortions, they are what you also call them, miscarriages. God set the matters of the world in motion, but he does not interfere with all the details. We are human beings, and we are not perfect. Because we are not perfect, and because we can do many things to our bodies (or our bodies constantly are changeing) there are certain results, of which could be miscarriages. Most importantly, a miscarriage is not the result of an intentional act, whereas abortion is; just as in the law there is murder, which is the intentional killing of another human being, and complete exoneration for neither having intent or negligence. You can't compare the two, it is illogical and ignorant.
3) Adam was not conceived in a womb, so there is no comparison. Again, the fact that procreation was so important and sacred should be enough reason to argue that the act of concieving alone is sacred. You are right the Bible says nothing about conception, and I agree that this is a personal matter for individuals to come to terms with, but not even science is clear on this. The line has been drawn according to trimester, but this was done because it is when they believed the baby could live outside of the womb. However, today this is different and babies can live outside of the womb from a very early stage. Additionally, with science we have seen the intricacy and development of the fetus at the early stages. It is very difficult to dispute there is life in the womb (at some stage to be determined by the individual). And when life is intentionally take, then God is against it, becuase that is murder.
I think you are wrong in saying someone cannot bring God on their side, because they can, because we live in a free country. Many people believe in pray and believe God speaks to them through prayer. Maybe all they need is for God to tell them it is wrong.

Hello =)
Some Christians take the traditional Catholic Approach to the matter, based upon the single verse:
Be fruitful and multiply.
Well, with the Earth's resources strained nearly to the brink as it is, if we are much more fruitful, we are headed to eminent doom as a species, but we won't go there.
Then, others take the commandment "Thou shalt not kill" as their validation. If one believes that life, true life, begins at conception (which I happen to believe), then, OK, I can see this point of view, but I find it in very bad taste that the ones who have this viewpoint are also the ones who support capital punishment.... This is Hypocrisy, and what these people believe is "Thou shalt not kill, unless thou thinks it's ok....."
I am of the belief that if you have a penis, it is inappropriate to voice your opinion on this matter. It simply is entirely outside of the male experience. Sure, it may upset you, fine, whatever. You can deal with that by making sure that you never produce any unwanted children. For women, however, things are not the same. It impacts their lives in different ways than it impacts the lives of men.
Lastly, every election day, droves of people flock the the polls, intent on voting their opinions on abortion into law. They frequently don't pay much attention to the other, more important issues at hand, and I think that this is one of the major reasons that our nation is falling into a downward spiral. If you want to gain a major percentage of the vote, just speak your position on abortion, it doesn't really matter what your position is, since people are so widely divided on this issue. Simply having an opinion on abortion will put you in the spotlight.
Namaste,
--Tom

There are a lot of things not mentioned in the bible specifically and to say that because they are not there by name that they do not have to be included isn't correct.
He doesn't produce spontaneous abortions. (I don't think everything that happens is his doing)
That was the "first" man not the rest of us. (he breathed life into him) I don't disagree with abortion but to say that a baby isn't a baby until it has breathed goes against common sense. (have you seen the development of a fetus at 7 or 8 months)
I am not against abortion but those who are can bring God into it because they view it as murder which the bible does not permit. We don't have to like it or agree but that is their choice.

First: You have no idea what the Bible says or doesn't say. So quit trying to use it. There are people on this site that are Bible students and realize how ignorant you are of the Bible.
Second: Miscarriages are not abortions and they happen for a variety of reasons, just like heart attacks.
Third: If you are in favor of killing innocent babies to cover the results of an affair that is CLEARLY condemned in God's Word.......I can assure you.....GOD IS NOT ON YOUR SIDE!

if he is against abortions, why did he allow doctors to become smart and learn the practice ? I find it funny to find religious types who claim god works in mysterious ways... but when god acts through a doctor to help them... some turn away the help saying god will save them.
this reminds me of the old joke about the guy drowning in the water and 3 boats come by to save him and he turns them all away saying god will save me. then he goes to heaven and asks god why didnt you save me ? and gods shouts I sent you 3 boats asshole
to the people that think abortions should not be legal, I bring forth the idea of a rape or incest baby. and if you think that these are still not legit cases for such a procedure. I can only hope that you are somehow forced to live through the pain of such an occurance, then when you deliver the child I hope it looks just like the attacker, so that you have to relive it every day, I hope the child gets a big thrill out of scaring you at night, maybe sneaking up on you to help you remember the trauma.

Very good! It also says in the Bible that if 2 men are fighting and one of the men has a pregnant wife standing close by and the other man were to hit her and cause her to have a miscarriage that the father of the fetus could make a lawsuit against the man that hit her...however if the hit killed the wife, then it's an eye for eye or tooth for tooth (execution)

1) Normally, common sense would tell you that the broad message contained in law ( in other words, the INTENT of the law, as opposed to the WORD of the law), precludes certain types of behaviour. For example, there is no specific wording in my local city bylaws which specifically states 'Thou shalt not park a cow on your neighbor's lawn'. However, deducting from the laws and logic which I do recognize and understand in the broad scope, I can easily understand the cow parking NOT to be the lawful thing to do. So it is with God's laws.
2) Physical illness and the vagaries of the imperfect human body are but two of the manifestations of sin, which now corrupt God's perfect Creation. He allowed this, as part of His plan for humanity. And we must live with it until this earth is eventually destroyed ( by Him), to be replaced by a new Heaven, and a new earth. Sin, is the culprit. Not a 'sloppy' or 'incompetent' God.
3)One could only conclude from the statement you have made here, that you have chosen to be ignorant of the medical discoveries made in the last 15 or so years, which illustrate life and response to stimuli very early in the development of the fetus. To say it is not a living thing, would be simply silly. 3D Ultrasound for instance, has given us a marvelous, available tool into the world of the developing human.
It sounds very much as though you have your mind made up in regards to this issue, rather than wanting to continually explore the various pieces of evidence as they present themselves.

It all happens when the fertilized egg implants itself onto the wall of the uterus.
This is when the mother starts to nurture and nurish the baby.
Some pregnancies become non-viable due to biological and developmental reasons. People die after they are born too. It has nothing to do with incompetence.
Deliberate abortion is pre-meditated.

I am a Christian and I believe in free choice. The Bible states that the breath of life is given after the baby exits the womb. I believe that their is only biological life in the womb. Soul life is given when the baby leaves the mothers body. Not a popular opinion. I also believe in Freedom through military victory and capital punishment. Peace out.
