limewire itself is not illegal but the majority of downloads are. also as i have discovered to my horror what you ask for is not always what you get. a lot of the blue movies are disguised as box office movies. and they can carry viruses. be careful

I love Limewire and I'm an avid user. If I want to download a music file I use Limewire always. you should get limewire too. It's a good peer to peer software if you have to download mp3, movies, videos or file. Limewire is a safe and reliable pogram but like all peer to peer program you have to be careful of what you are donwloading from it. You always have to be cautious about what you download. Don't use torrents/downloads from other sites, they might be backdoored.

Limewire is not illegal today. The technology is simply Peer-to-peer sharing of files. The FILES you share may cause to to engage in illegal copyright infringment. In other words, the tool doesn't break the law now, once you USE the tool, for copying material that should NOT be copied, then you break the law. The material itself is copyrighted in many cases, and this copyright carries across any tool usage.
(That said, there may be very legitimate uses for Limewire in which you are sharing material that you have the legal right to share, or that which you own the copyright yourself, etc.)

limewire is legal, BUT some installs of it is infected. of course, you might get a not corrupted install, but as you will download files from people you don't know, you cannot be sure that the files you receive are not malicious. most of fileshare programs are dangerous: http://www.2-spyware.com/news/post91.html
