The MP5 in all it's variations is a reliable and highly effective weapon. It handles environmental extremes as well as being compact, easy to use and for me, the best part was that is was sooo quiet when silenced. Barely heard it when firing.

ì had no idea the mp5 was a submarine gun, but why would special forces use submarine guns that must weigh several hundred pounds while they have access to for instance the much lighter sub machine guns like the heckler and Koch mp5

The MP5 is highly reliable, and it fires from a closed bolt, which makes it much more accurate than the typical sub-gun, which fires from an open bolt, without too much of the usual overheating problem generally seen with closed-bolt pieces.

Special forces use weapons like the mp5 as it is used for short range shooting, primarily a weapon for close quarters battle.
It is efficient and meets the requirements of a sturdy, yet powerful sub-machine gun.

Special forces soldiers are uncoventional soldiers, thus they use weapons not authorized, and not available to the common grunt.
