it has helped immensely. squads now had CAD (computer aided dispatch) computer consoles in the squad cars where they are able to send and receive calls from dispatch, thus minimizing radio traffic to a minimum. they are able to pull traffic and criminal records, vehicle info, all from the convenience of their squad car.
This helps also in apprehending criminals and avoiding their detection due to all those out there in scanner land.
Reports can be written from the squads and also now we can recreate accident and crime scenes using computer programs.

Technology in LE is greatly improving the criminal justice process because it has helped increase community policing tactics and making officers more visible. a squad car is an officer's mobile office for eight hours out of the day and these technological advances have proved to be effective because they can now be out on the street for 7 1/2 hours of a shift instead of 4 because they don't have to return to the squad room to write all the reports, etc.

Technology can always help the criminal justice process.
Just look at the introduction of the internet and all of the cyber crimes, most of the Fedeal Law Enforcement Agencies have a cyber investigations unit as do most of your larger local police dept's. This is a good way for our law enforcement officers to track and arrest child sex offenders.

Two words: Photo Shop.

You can't just introduce a picture as evidence, you need an expert to testify it was not altered. This does not speed things up any.
