Honest questions are welcome. I would never not let you ask questions. If I did why would anyone want to know the Jesus that I claim to serve. I am sorry that your uncle would not allow your father to go to a revival. When you put Christian in quotation that was a correct thing to do. In Phillip Yancey's book "What Is So Amazing About Grace?" the first chapter tells the story of a prostitute who desires to get out of that profession and goes to a church to hear how she can change, they told her to leave, and then she went to a bar and they sat down and listened. That gives true Christian brothers and sisters a bad name. We Christians are sinners saved by grace. ALL Christians are not like this- there are loving, grace filled believers who love people as Jesus loves them. I grieve as God does when someone who does not know Jesus, does not want to know Him because of how a believer treated them. I will pray that your father comes to know Jesus who can completely heal him of his alcoholism. By the way read Jim Cymbala's books. He is the pastor of Brooklin Tabernacle in NY, who open their doors to addicts and how God takes them and changes them. Do not put all Christians together in one package.

It is most unfortunate that a lot of Christians do exactly as you claim. However, thankfully, not all do. Not everyone who claims to be a Christian truly understands what a Christian really is. You should have taken your father to the revival anyway. Church is the place where he belongs. I have to question the "True Christianity" of your uncle. Although I do not know your uncle and have no right to judge him "Lest I be judged in like manner". But it sounds as if he may need to step back and take a check on his own understanding of Christianity. I have found also in my life that the Christian is the first to shoot their own wounded. If you have questions of what is taught in church, it would be of benefit to you to find a preacher or teacher who would explain things to you so that you can understand. It might be wise for you not to take the teachings of anyone at full value. Listen and learn and then study for yourself what is being taught. Too bad that you were put into such a position as you were. If you truly want to understand what Jesus taught ask him to show you what is and what is not true. Church is only a meeting house where folks are supposed to be able to hear the word of God taught and to fellowship with others. Don't let the gossip of the church you attended prevent you from attending church somewhere else and perhaps you should do just that. Find a church to go to where they don't know you and let them see you for who you want to be.

That was wonderful insight. Sometimes when we are standingback an obeserving the people around us, we notice things that we can take in several ways. We can choose to do nothing, we can choose to ridicule, and we can choose to do withever the Spirit of God urges us to do.
What you have is the insight. Now, what to do with it?
I can tell that your intentions are to help others, it is natural for a Christian to want to help. After all, God helps; being His nature, and we have His nature in us.
So your Uncle has a problem with the plan? And your father needs help, but does he want the help? Weigh these things on the Spirit, and you will definitely get your answer. If your answer is that your father wants to go to the revival, and the Spirit urges you to do so, then trust God to provide, for who He calls He enables. That's you. I'm sure that your Uncle has his reasons, but I'm sure that he's not the only one with a car. If he remains persistant, it's time to disobey him. If he leaves for the revival ( and the above things concerning the Holy Spirit are true) then wait for him to leave and then have arranged a friend with a car (if you don't have one) to come after your Uncle leaves. You and your father, go to the revival and sit in the back. Whatever your father does at the revival will be telling as to his sincerity in spiritual things.
As far as judgemental Christians go: You have the insight. Now to practice it! You are the example that others are to see. How good are you at being an example to others? By not drawing attention to your tact in this matter, you can still have an effect upon those that are around you. I hope that you get people thinking by your responses, and if gossip is present before you, would you recognize it?
To me, gossip is news about someone that is not meant to help anyone in the telling of it. It hurts everyone it touches. The teller, the listener, and the person being gossiped about. Whether the news is true or not, gossip is devisive to anothers schemes. If it is true and harmful, it is gossip. If it is not true, it is bearing false witness.
I hope that helped. ( :

Hello =)
People pick and choose what parts of the Bible they wish to believe, and ignore the rest, for the most part. This has been happening for 2000 years, unfortunately.
People choose to believe parts of Leviticus about homosexuality, and adultery, but at the same time, ignore the Kosher laws, and the bits about idolatry.
One need always remember that the purpose of man may very well be to serve God, but the purpose of religion is ultimately to serve man. If you feel as if you are being forced to be hypocritical, in some way, then you need to change churches until you find one that makes you less uncomfortable.
The book of James (written by Christ's own brother) warns sternly about criticizing others with the same mouth that you use to praise God, and when you think about it, it makes very good sense. You can't spew venom out of one side of your mouth, and praise God out the other. Hatred and love are not simultaneously compatible.
You're on the right track, though, and are going to be fine. You just need to get to a place where you feel comfortable with your spirituality. It took me more than 40 years, so you have plenty of time.
Namaste,
--Tom

I am a Christian and I too had to deal with judging. But you are right, the Bible says not to judge, lest you be judged the same way. It also says no man is perfect. You will sin until the day you die. It is part of our genetic makeup.
However, INTENTIONAL sin is what is wrong. God will continue to change us until we are fit to come to His kingdom. But we as Christians, as human as we are, need to recognize our place in society, and know that the world is watching us, and we should watch ourselves and strive to be good examples of the Christian faith.
I'm sorry the church U went to and Ur uncle did what they did, but believe me that is NOt what REAL CHRISTIAns do. THere is a difference between a Christian & a Church_goer.
Also, it's great 2 ask intelligent questions in SUnday school, but also ask God for wisdom & study the Bible on Ur own.

Sigh. Questions like this are guaranteed not to go anywhere.
I only wish "christians" actually DID read the bible. I do, all the time - I keep my dad's old bible by the toilet for browsing. I find it absolutely incredible that I'm reading the same book that's constantly being referenced and "thumped" by religious nutbags to support every insane notion that pops into their fool heads. Every woman who thinks she's a "christian," for example, really ought to try actually reading Paul on the subject of womanhood - but she'll have to ask her husband first! The short answer is that there is a complete and total disconnect between so-called "religious" people and the books upon which their superstitions are founded, and no amount of "bible study" (apparently) is sufficient to make them actually learn anything about the bible.

Haven't you figured out by now that most Christians don't even read the Bible, let alone try to follow the teachings in it? It is a sad state that the world is in right now and you are a brave one to stand up for what is right. Keep searching, keep looking for truth and most of all keep trusting God to be true even if all men prove to be liars. God loves you and if you sincerely search for him with all your heart and do not give up, you will find those people who he has trusted to represent him in this wicked world and even they will not be perfect. Keep looking at God and at his word and not the people around you. We all inherited sin from Adam and Eve and it has compounded over many many generations. It is so bad that Jesus will take 1,000 years to get the earth ready to give back to God--Hang in there. Relief is coming soon.

VERY GOOD QUESTION! Just human nature is all I can say. I believe the very same thing. People are just hypocritical, period. The same person criticizing folk for living together without being married or having children out of wedlock, goes right home to look for underage boys on the internet. Stuff like that happens every day. Ignore the BS and don't put any faith in people, only in whatever higher power you believe in.

Who said they were Christian? You're only Christian if you follow and change your life to the way Jesus Christ commanded his followers to do, and many today in Christendom are not doing this! First, all of the 10 Commandments, then all that Jesus said was necessary for one to be a disciple, including: love your neighbor, love your enemy, and to stay out of this world's political affairs as His Kingdom would come and bring to an end all repression brought about by Satan's wicked system of things!

Not sure what kind of church you are going to but sounds like they hate questions. Might want to go to a different one or at least ask questions to the teacher after class. Your dad should be allowed to go. Now if your dad goes drunk and is one to make a scene then I can understand why your uncle would not let him. The bible says judge righteous judgement too.
