I had the same problem this year not too long ago. I don't have a short answer to this big problem. My hair was getting shorter in the middle of my head. Really bad breakage! I will tell you what I did. I went to the salon and got my hair cut to even out my hair because it was so UNHEALTHY and DAMAGED. It was the SHORTEST I ever had in my life! The lady wash and straighten it. So it was then back "normal" and healthy, but much shorter! So, to avoid this ever happening again, I got me some Aveda Brilliant Shampoo and Conditioner which is made for textured and chemically treated hair (or try Pantene for women of color) I wash my hair once a week and I leave the conditioner in for about 5 mins. Next, I deep condition it with Aveda Damage Remedy Intensive Restructring Treatment and leave it in my hair for 20 minutes with a plastic cap over my head then wash it out. I then apply CHI Silk Infusion just a dime size amount to my hand and rub it evenly throughout my hair. I blowdry it straight. I apply another dime size amount of CHI Silk Infusion to my hair and get ready to straighten with the CHI flat iron (the CHI leaves your hair silky like the salon and it is ceramic which is less damaging to your hair). Make sure you have the following products: Motions heat protectant (or Aveda Brilliant Damage Control), some Isoplus Oil Sheen, and Smooth n Shine Spray on Polish. After your section your hair to straighten it, make sure you LIGHTLY spray all of the following on your strands prior to applying the flat iron to your hair. When you put the CHI in your hair, turn it like a curling iron so you have that nice flip to it. When you are done, BAM your hair looks so good. I suggest you don't curl your hair during the week so your ends don't split so fast and so you don't have to get it trimmed so often until your hair grows back out. But if you want to curl it during mid week make sure you spray that Motions heat protector in your hair. Get your trim every 4 or 6 weeks depending on your ends. Also, WRAP your hair up EVERY night with a silk scarf. Also, I used so many at home relaxers and the best one I like with no breakage is Optimum. For grease I recommend Soft Sheen's Optimum it is very light (or Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade). Good luck!

Oh man, this could be anything causing your breakage. My suggestion for you is ApHOGEE. This is a protein treatment for damaged hair and can be found at your local beauty supply store. When you buy the treatment, make sure you purchase the moisturizer as well. You use this treatment once every six weeks and it works wonders. I promise you. With this treatment you can continue to relax your hair. After you rinse the relaxer, wash and condition your hair, apply the ApHOGEE and comb through the hair. You need to sit under a hooded dryer or use a blow dryer if you don't have a hooded dryer. If you use a blow dryer, dry hair without agitating it. The ApHOGEE will become very hard and will have a loud odor to it as well. Once dry, use cool running water to rinse hair, apply moisturizer for 5 minutes then rinse. You're ready to style as normal. I would suggest that you find a style where you are not applying heat everyday or combing/brushing everyday. Talk with your stylist and see what she suggests. Make sure she is only getting the relaxer on your new growth. Also it is so important that you use a silk or satin scarf or bonnet EVERY night. If these have a problem coming off, use a silk/satin pillow case.

firstly i have to ask......what race are you? coz the different hair types react differently to treatments. secondly, was your hair relaxing done by a professional or did you used a home kit? if you did it at home, its likely that you did it wrong i.e. left it in too long? The relaxing treatment you used was probably what caused the hair breakage.....
1.) did you make sure that you had the correct strength of relaxer (mild, regular, super....)
2.) after you relaxed it you needed to make sure it was adequately moisturised otherwise it would dry out and break.
you have to cut it and start over....but if you really dont want to do that then you should atleast start treating your hair with hot oils and rejuvenators so that it stops breaking. try and stick to the same make of products coz they are designed to work best together. good luck

It sounds like youve got hair breakage it sometimes happens when your hair has been through to much, if you have chemicals applied to often to the same part of hair you tend to get a breakage patch. What hand od you use when your syling your hair, left or right? you will notice its often on the side you mostly use because you are more heavy handed. G o to your hair stylist and ask for a deep penetrating conditioner and have a good haircut and start again but be careful your hairs as delicate as your skin. x

well all u have got to do is not be so forceful with teh brush and when playing with ur hair, if u put ur hair up then dont do it tight as it pulls out ur hair, dont worry becuase at one stage this happened to me, the hair that is there now is hair that grew later then the hair that has"gone" but its replacing the damaged hair, my hair felt shorter but after a while it seemed to look back at its orginal length. jus take care of ur hair and lay of any ironing tongs.

lisa i am a hairdresser honey in a top city centre salon in glasgow ther can be numerous causes to this honey and there are solutions to each one it could be as simple as you are tying you hair up to tight it could be exsessive blow drying and straightning of hair it could be excessive colouring of your hair, it could be jewellry that you are wearing tugging on it or even clothes unfortunattly there is not an immediatte solution it will take time to build the strength and health of your hair back to its normal state there is one shampoo and conditioner that i would highly recomend its called nioxin its a tea tree based produst that helps rebuild damaged hair and double the amount of new hair growing it is a lovely refreshing shampoo it is a bit more expensive but is very concentrated so last ages you will get it out of your nearest salon services

mines was breaking off because of the material of my wool winter coat and scarf...i had to get a silk scarf to wear around my neck instead. it was catching on the wool and just snapping right off. and also if you tie your head up at night make sure it isnt really tight and the material is silky...this has helped me. good luck!
