I would definitely give to Cancer Research or Macmillan Cancer Charity. They help families with cancer patients traveling costs to hospital and staying at accommodation etc.

I lost my brother to cancer approx ten years ago when he was 21. It was a terrible time for the family watching him fade away to his slow death. However we must remain positive as he was an inspiration to us all. So very brave and never complained. I am quitting smoking soon as taking Zyban from doctor.

Good luck and great idea.

Probabily a charity not as popular, because it still needs money to get off the ground and do some good, it would help a smaller amount of people, yes but, it would probabily do alot of good to those people you dont hear often about, and it would make yourself feel better than just putting money in the Red Cross, or something, where you really don't know where the money is exactly going, this way you know.

I would give funds to the House of David Help Center, because I know they are men and women of God.

I would not hand out 10's or 20's to people passing by, or throw one dollar bills into a crowd. That is a waste of time and funds.
What good would a one dollar bill do a family of 6? It would be more beneficial for six families to each give 6$ to a help center for electric bills in the winter months so families can stay warm.

I would rather see a help ministry pay the electric and water and rent for men, women, and families in need, rather than give an alcoholic booze money.

I give what I can to the Laura Crane Trust. I filled in a Gift Aid form so the charity can get 28% tax back from the government
on top of my donations.

This charity was started by a mother who lost her beautiful teenage daughter to = more than one kind of cancer when she was only 17.

Her mum wanted to raise £10,000 a year to fund research into teenage cancer but in 10 years I know it's close to a £1,000,000 already.

They give money to hospitals too to provide Play stations, MP3 players, personal DVD players, art things, books, guitars and other great things for the teenagers with cancer to enjoy when they are in having treatment.

It's a fantastic charity and the mother gave up teaching to do this and has never taken any wages.

I would first choose a local charity. I live in a somewhat small town, and thus there is little money for charities here.
I would also take to the street, and annonymously hand out $20- bills, seeking out the homeless.
Finally, I would also give to the animal charities here. There are a couple of people here who take care of literally hundreds of animals in need. They spend their days and part of their nights seeking out donated hay, salvageable vegetables, donated cans of pet foods, just to try and keep these animals fed.
I guess the way I would choose to donate would be to help those who are literally unable to help themselves.
Great Question.

If I had a lot of money, I don't think I would just give it to any charity. I think I would find people who need help and give it to them directly. That way, I would get to see the end results of my help.

I would give it to Habitat for Humanity or Envision Linesville. I used to be involved with Habitat and it's a really great organization that gives people a "hand up, not a hand out", which I think is a great concept. Envision Linesville is a non-profit I started a couple years ago to do community projects in my hometown. It still needs start-up money to help get the ball rolling, so I'd probably give there first.

There are so many worthwhile causes. I volunteer for a local SPCA in my area. 100% of all income goes toward helping animals. We pay no salaries, we put up animals in our homes, we go out and beg for $. A lot of our own money goes toward helping as well as our time.
I would make my choice on what cause is closest to my heart and how much of what they take in goes directly to helping.
One large non profit we all know pays pretty hefty salaries to their help. Their organization seems to need a pretty good percentage of their income just to run. Check them out before your give.
And I also resent when my employer pledges my salary and EXPECTS me to donate so that the company can say how much they give back to society. On those occassions, not wanting to disappoint, I give a total of $1 cash, no need to deduct monthly from my check.
Another one I don't donate to is something that is a general help type of organization but only gives to things that will benefit one race. Charity should be to all.
But if you don't have $, give of yourself. Pick up the newspaper and there are usually lists of worthwhile orgainzations that need everytype of help.
It's a great way to make the world a better place.
