I am being forced Bipolar Meds which I do not like taking, I find certain music in my case traditional catholic music songs, (not that new charismatic garbage) keeps me calm? Might this possibly be a treatment for MY Bipolar in place of less meds or no meds at all?

Just as Peter Pan had to have the kids think of a happy thought to fly I have peaceful songs which bring me down to a stable level? FYI HAPPY does not equal Peace we just have Satan doctors in this country posing as psychiatrists hired by bad Americans after the Holocaust to devise a money making scheme in attempt to rob them of their lives and soul. "Fear not those who can only hurt your body but those who can hurt body and soul"

PSYCHIATRISTS ARE NOT TO BE TRUSTED, and many of the nurses that work with them are just as corrupt. They can afford a one or two month vacation for every annual year working a 6 day work shift while you work 2 or 3 jobs as for example a single mother for something that can be healed with faith..and their pride their pride in their athleticism they these evil Germans think they are the superior athletes the stench of their very soul will eternally rot in Gehena and their worms will have pride in an everlasting meal "For their worm will never die nor their fire quenched" Isiah

well here's my suggestion to think about first of all... in life when you are at school or work will you be able to listen to music at the time you may need to, to help you through your rough moment? Now, also take a look at the reasons of why you feel so strongly of not wanting to take meds that may help you... or they may not...(I'm not a doctor so I have no clue in that aspect) and discuss them with the people that want you to be on the meds... this will help them understand where you are coming from and why you feel the way you do about this issue. I'm not sure if this may help but do you Know Robbin Williams? the actor... he has Bi-polar and has to take meds for it... does he seem like the person that is on meds? and Could you tell he was on meds? The reason why I asked you about him is because he is famous and doesn't seem like he's having any problems being on meds. it helps him to get where he is in life... Meds don't make you a bad person for taking them it is an imbalance in your chemicals that meds replace to help your chemicals become level for you...which in the big picture means you will only benefit from taking care of yourself the way you may need to to feel normal.
I hope I helped you at least open your mind to a different view of meds. Best wishes I believe you will do what is best for you no matter what it is!

I know the answer you want to hear, but I'm sorry, if you give the meds a real chance to do their thing, it will better you in the long run. I think it's great that you have another non-medical approach to dealing with your bipolar and found that it works for you. I'm just thinking of if your at your job, school or wherever, and you cannot access your music? There is a chemical imbalance in your brain, and the meds are only to help you cope better, not fix the problem. It does ultimately come down to you, as to weatehr or not you take your meds, but I wouldn't blow them off completely.
After reading your additional comments??
STAY ON YOUR MEDS........FOR THE LOVE OF GOD.....

I have a family history of Bi polar. My brother has to have the worse case though. His started showing up early on when he was a tot, no one knew until his preteens, by then they said it was nearly too late. He got on meds in his late teens and had a awful time (he is out going most of the time, cracks jokes and just a very pleasant person to be around, but you do have phases and when he had his they lasted for ever for him). I did a lot of research on this topic spoke to many Dr. & specialists, the best way to treat it to be on meds asap, otherwise your body does not work as well. He waited too long to be treated and almost died, his lithium levels were so low, they said they were surprised he did not kill him self (which he tried) or wasn't comatose. If he had simply taken the meds earlier it would not have been so hard for his body to react, but because he did...well they just say the sooner the better.

I love your question. I would say if you know what works for you to help calm you down DEFINATELY do that first. I think parents and doctors want to sedate all the children and not let them be children and they do this by forcing them onto drugs which will change your brain chestry- I say DONT DO IT unless you absolutely have to. Do what you know works and train yourself to control yourself that way, if you get out of control and your technique does not work and your a danger to yourself or others then take the medication. If your already on the medication slowly take yourself off but make sure your using the other tactic to learn to control yourself, dont stop meds all at once there are probably major side effects to that. Trust God and learn yourself. Good Luck and be safe.

Bruno, it's good that you found music to be calming, but bipolar is unpredictable without meds so you would be better off taking the meds and still listening to the calming music. Unfortunately, we are not always able to soothe ourselves with music during life's little (and big) crises. Talk to your doctor about taking the least amount of drugs possible, take the meds and have a good life.

You should not be forced to take medication. If there are other alternatives seek them. Medications harm other parts of the internal organs and everyday we hear about the consequences of taking medications for a prolonged period of time. I am totally against medications for that purpose, but on the other hand if the med's will help you better than the alternative then please do what is right.

It depends. Do you actually use the music therapy? How old are you? If you are under 18, do what your parents and doctor tell you to do. Once you are 18, you can ween yourself off of the meds if you think you can deal without them.

If you found another outlet then taking medication to control your condition then I say use it! Medication has varies side effects and to me long term, isn't the answer. I think music is a good way to control moods and relax people. I would say have a talk with your doctor and see what he says, either way continue doing the music therapy.

Those meds are just going to make your body dependent upon them. Make it easy on yourself and stop taking them now and start jamming to your music. Maybe even smoke a little reefer or something.
