Spirituality and religion are near polar opposites.

That leaves quite a bit of latitude for almost anyone who wants to chime in with their opinion.

Same reason non linguist post in the language category, or non musicians posting on the music category and so forth. I think it's so there is a diversity of views and perspectives and not just one because you have assumed religious questions to be of one religion. So will you be asking why non christians are answering in the religion category?

This question gets asked almost every day. Check the answer history for some excellent replies. Religion affects us all and even nonreligious people have ideas related to religion they enjoy discussing. They have a point of view on it and their lives are affected by it a lot. Why do some religious people post their anti-evolution/pro-creation story views over in the biology section? Similar scenerio I guess.

We are looking for people to argue with. Also, if people can be persuaded to not discriminate or persecute, or attempt to restrict the freedom of others based on religious differences, we can make the world a better place. Unfortunately people are generally so aggressive, and defensive and obnoxious that real communication isn't taking place.

Why do so many people constantly assume that only religious people have questions and thoughts about religion and spirituality? Do you have an idea how many people have already asked your question? Try a search -- you'll find a lot of answers to this query.

Consider it recon. Christians are trying to propagate any number of lies throughout the US and we're here to detect and correct.

The universe is 13.5 billion years old or so, +/- 2 billion (though the COBE data tag it pretty close to the 13.5 billion). It is not about 6000 years old.

The planet Earth is approximately 4.5 billion years old, give or take a few hundred million years. It is not about 6000 years old.

Life on planet Earth is approximately 3.0 billion years old, give or take a few hundred million years. It is not about 6000 years old.

Life formed through naturalistic processes on the prebiotic Earth, as studied in the field of abiogenesis, and there are remarkable experiments (particularly Miller-Urey) that support this. There is none to support literal creationism or supernatural involvement.

Life, once created, evolved through naturalistic processes, as studied in the field of evolution, and there are multiple fields that support this field, among them physics (radiodating methods), geology (geological records, layer dating), palentology (fossil record), genetics (phylogenetic similiarity/divergence studies), neurology (comparative brain studies in chordates), and more.

The universe did not just 'poof' into being at the will of some creator 6000 years ago.

FURTHER... religion and spirituality contain an academic component. Christianity, Judiasm, Islam, Hinduism, Shintoism, Atheism, Buddhism, Jainism, Satanism, et al, posit various axioms upon which they operate, and these axioms are subject to discussion, debate, and logical analysis. One need not be Christian to discuss and understand Christianity, one need not be a Jew to discuss and understand Judiasm, etc. One needs only a willingness to learn and a willingness to discuss and a willingness to think.

Many are here because they are angered by the spritual people that go to other categories and insert their spiritual and religious beliefs all over those unrelated categories.

In short, they reap what they sow.

because it's like watching a train wreck. you want to look away, but you sit and watch it happen.

personally, I can't understand how people can believe in god. and when you ask them why they do, or present them with facts about there actually being no god, they get all upset and angry. they rarely present and factual evidence of a god, or have any solid reasons to believe (except that it was forced upon them by their parents when they were young and they believe it is "evil" to question those beliefs).

Once people start to question the beliefs that have been forced upon them, they realize what a bunch of $#it it is and they wake up.

Because many religious people want to meddle in the lives of those that don't beleive. Religious freedom means also the right to NOT beleive and not to have others with faith rule your life.
