so they don't have to take responsibility when they screw up - its either god's fault or the devil made them do it. much easier to pass the buck. and yes - ppl do it all the time.

I know what you are saying and to some people it is not possible not to believe in God and then blame him for something because they didn't believe in him the first place. But I am sure we can all remember people saying, when something goes wrong, 'well if there is a God why has he let this happen? They doubt there is a God but blame him anyway!!

Something going wrong can fall on the shoulders of only two people, either themselves (who they are worshipping), or God. The Bible states that the fool says in their heart that there is no God (Psalm 14:1, 53:1) and perhaps this is part of that foolishness, but certainly a continuance of Man's rebellion against God. It also shows that people believe in the existence of God, they just exclude Him from their lives and ignore Him, effectively making Him not exist to that person.

I'm atheist and I have never blamed God when something in my life went wrong. I don't know any atheists myself who do that. If someone does then my guess would be that they weren't truly an atheist but someone who was angry with life and lashing out first by saying they didn't believe when in truth they were just upset or confused and then blaming God rather than taking responsibility when things go wrong.

Hello =)

The only people I know who do this are Christians, or people teetering on the edge of Christianity. People who honestly have no belief in a God would never do this, of course, and Muslims have a different view altogether, stating constantly that any good comes from God, while any evil must surely come from man. Jews question the motivations of God, but never blame him.

Bona fide Atheists would never blame God for tragedies, however, but may use tragedies in their lives to underscore their beliefs.

Tragedy brought me to Atheism some 26 years ago. Now, I am a Buddhist, which is a sort of Atheist, but on the whole Judeo/Christian/Muslim God thing, I remain unsure at best. I have been trying to reconcile all of the world's major religions, and am succeeding to some degree.

Namaste,

I might say "for gods sake". but do you know why. Not cos im blaming god. Language changes with the ppl that use it.

A bastard in todays terms usually means a not nice person. back then it ment someone who was born to an unmarried couple. Now its just an insult. For me "god's sake" is EXACTLY that.

Another curse word.

If I called you a "God damn gaybo" im not saying your gay and that god damns you.

Im insulting you the same as if I called you a bastard or a fucktard or dick stick or c**k gobbler. I dont mean you do these things litirally.

This world today is very unliteral as you may have noticed. Dont tell me that crap about I actually believe but its not cool

cos ill just say you know in your heart your religion is bullshit but your SCARED of standing by yourself and there IS no judgement for you.

I disagree with your beliefs but if you say I believe anyway Ill say fine, agree to disagree.

I don't, and I don't. I believe in the Goddess and the God, and when something goes wrong in my life I stress about it and try to figure out what the lesson is that They are trying to teach me, so that They don't have to send a harsher lesson for me.

I know no one who doesn't believe in God that blames God when bad things happen to them.

When something goes wrong in my life, I blame myself. I don't need to blame a God that isn't part of my life.

You may be mistaking questions presenting hypothetical situations in which a nonbeliever is saying 'If your God is real and is what you say He is, then how can.....(such-and-such happen)' as blaming God.

There's also sarcasm and humor. I could blame a fear of ripping my pants in a public place on Spongebob, but who would take me seriously?

I have never met anyone who does not believe in god who then blames him for something. It does not sound possible to do that.
