My female just turned 1 yesterday as well as went into her first heat all in the same day. She is a dominant female and I had considered spaying her instead of breeding her in hopes that it would calm and settle her down. However, I am having second thoughts as since she has gone into heat, you can see a difference in her, she is calm as well as listening to commands. As far as the dominance, she is not nasty or anything like that, she just doesn't always want to listen to the stay command and sometimes that causes difficulty as there are 4 of them. Any suggestions?

Please don't breed her. Have her spayed as soon as she is through this heat. There are far too many unwanted kitties in the world.

Being in heat doesn't have a thing to do with a temporary temperment change. If this dog's temperament is in question in the first, place, she should never be bred. Only dogs with the absolute best temperaments should ever be bred, and then only if they're an excellent example of their breed. Get her spayed - she'll be healthier and there'll be less unwanted dogs in the world.

I think that you are confusing stubborn with dominant. I've always found that the females in my house show their true temperment aroung the age of 2 when they become adults.
Yours is only one. In human terms, she's a 12 yr old child.

Well, the dominant female's 'heat time' lasts for about a month, so if shes a purebred, you could mate her, and get yourself some offspring.

Good luck with the fun!
