If we knew, it wouldn't be mysterious. 72 rhinoceros were introduced into the Babai Valley as part of an ongoing conservation program. Nepal's Department of National Park and Wildlife Conservation rules out poachers, beyond the 23 rhinoceros that are confirmed dead, because poachers leave the body after taking the horn, but the bodies have not been found in this case. As a result, the disappearance of the other 49 is unexplained.

Since there are now so many Chinese in Tibet, I'm sure that it is Chinese poachers, who kill the Rhinos for the horn, which they use in medicine and aphrodisiac potions.

Some of the Rhino horns are worth several thousand dollars, I'm told.

The political state in Nepal is such that outside of Katmandhu, it is virtually impossible to maintain security. It is especially hard to maintain any security across the mountain passes of the Himalayas, into Tibet.
