Good question which I don't really know the answer too. However, the covering of Muslim women's hair is nothing to do with religion but to do with man's control. It certainly does give mixed messages to force one without the other, not to mention showing their ankles, which I believe can be very sexy. The mixed message will continue as long as Muslim men continue to have control and treat their women as inferior.

Honestly I think within every "law" man derived or spiritual people are going to find loopholes. I'm not muslim so I can say officially, but I have seen the practice many times in my life and all I can think of is muslim or not they are women and furthermore human....they need a sense of feeling beautiful and to also to belong. I think the problem is that some people looking to answer the question is that they are looking at these women as figureheads for their religion and not what they are at their base which is women.
No one ever questions that catholic school girl that bends the dress code to the point of breaking, so let's not think too much of the muslim woman wearing high heels. Besides all of that don't think of it as a mix message. The only message that I see whenever I see anyone man or woman wearing an outfit is that they either have to wear what they are wearing (job or social event) or they like wearing what they are wearing (just makes them feel good). The only message that I would came up with whenever I saw a muslim woman wearing high heels is that she is dedicated to her religion and just happen to like high heels.
....It's a funny world when we start questioning a woman and her footwear. I learned to give up that battle after the various looks I got when asking "do you really need another pair of shoes that looks almost exactly like the ones you are wearing now??", LOL

Thank you for the question.
You have made a good point, but on the basis of a minority of women that wear high heels, you cannot judge all.
We can wear whatever shoes/sandals we wish to as long as we don't attract attention (i.e. sounds made by the heals)
However there is a diiference In what many scholars think, some say they should cover complety whilst others say you don't have to.
But i personally think if a women was to cover up totally then feet must be covered.
By the way do you look at all Muslim women?
(i doubt it)

The answer to your question is that you are absolutely right to think that. They are not supposed to wear anything sparkly, materialistic, sexy, or non-conventional. Some people just don't care. I've seen Muslim girls fight at my high school when i was younger. They are people like everyone else. They commit sins and think it is okay if everyone else is doing it. The fact is, if you choose to practice a religion then follow it. Do not call American girls the 'w' word for showing skin, but you want to dress sexy too. That is hypocritical. There are hypocrites all across the board.

I think that you are trying to justify being a racist and bigot. There is no mixed message here - as long as the head covering is on - the message clear, it is a reminder to the faithful. If you are noticing the head covering, you are seeing the "Stop" sign and since you are still looking (in this case at their high heels) you are obviously ignoring the reminder to be respectful and honour these women. They have gone out of their way to remind men of their moral convictions, They should not have to be swathed head to toe - unless their men are very weak morally.

An interesting point was made in a newspaper (ref the Muslim teacher's assistant) about the irony in Muslim women wearing veils to mask their beauty to other men but at the same time wearing eyeliner and mascara. If thats not a cry for liberty or total stupidity then Im not sure what is?

Its not appropriate... Muslim women are required to cover all of their body except for the face and hands.. so women who r showing any other parts than the face and hands or wearing anything that is considered sexy or not modest is not appropriate for muslim women.
BTW.. some Muslim women wear hijab as a tradition and not for being Muslims... I think this is what gives the mix messages...

Yes the mix mesages will continue as long as man continues to suppress womens freedom of expression cos the women in this case will overcompensate with that which is not covered by Islamic law.

Not all Muslims adhere to what should be. But between wearing heels and covering the hair, the latter was given first priority for a Muslim woman to do.It shows what she is.

First, you don't have to be a Muslim to think of a woman's hair as alluring. Most guys do. Anyway, I do. I love nice long hair and women spend fortunes on their hair.
I'm told by women, that underneath the formal wear, many Muslim women dress very attractively but for other women!!! They are STILL women you see.
High heels? Hey, give them something they can do. They also occasionally decorate their Hajib's with nice patterns as my Egyptian friend does.
For me, I'm not a huge foot guy but hair I notice, ...
