My brother is getting married and my bro's GF said that she has to pick between me and her best friend to be the maid of honor.
Can there be two?

Are either of you married? There is often a Maid of Honor and a Matron of Honor.

And, yes----if the Bride wants two Maids of Honor, that is her prerogative. There is nothing wrong with it.

There is usually only one maid of honor, but people can make their own traditions. Usually the maid of honor is the one to help the bride with the planning and do things such as sending invitations, helping address envelopes for thank yous, devising the seating arrangement for the reception, going along for fittings etc. Another big thing the maid of honor typically does is host a bridal shower and/or plan the bachelorette party. In my opinion, the more people to help and plan all these things the better, so whether you are the maid of honor or not, see if you can't help out in some way.

Well.....**wincing uncomfortably**....yessss.....sort of. It's a given that just as the best man, GENERALLY, is the groom's best friend, so is the same for the bride's maid of honor.

Oh, what the hell....it's your brother's girlfriend's day, right? Her one special day to ball and chain down your brother for life....while at the same time, enjoy that blissful beautiful Barbie doll like wedding she's dreamt of since she was 8.

Have a talk with the forthcomming sister in law, tell her you understand her choice for maid of honor....but you would like to stand in the wedding. Make the peace and be done with it....and hope you get a cute handsome guy to walk down the asile with you.

I've never heard of there being two, but then people break tradition all the time. For instance, I had two ring bearers (one for each ring) instead of a ring bearer and a flower girl because I wanted to include both of my sons in the wedding.

My father always says, "There's nothing to cause family arguments quite like funerals and weddings." It's a tough time with sticky decisions; just roll with it and realize that if she doesn't choose you, there's a probably a lot driving her decision other than which one of you she most enjoys being around.

In very large formal weddings there's sometimes a junior maid of honor.

Yep. It's her wedding, she can do whatever she wants. At my wedding, I had my best friend and my sister-in-law as my matrons of honor, no bridesmaids, 4 flower girls, and no ring bearer. She doesn't have to pick unless she really doesn't WANT you to be her maid of honor, and is using "I have to pick" as an excuse.

in looking back on many weddings-believe it or not people usually wish that they had chosen the family member-friends come and go but family stays with you (wanted or not(O:) also, brides rule the wedding-tradition- BUT they can make their own tradition and pretty much make any decisions and new traditions they want...bottom line if she really wants you she shouldn't have to choose between you two-choose both-years from now she'll be happier with this decision and you get a helper for all of your"duties...showers etc. !
