Pastor Billy says: that depends on whom you talk to. From my understanding the answer is.........YES.
To be born again the bible way is to be baptised into the Christian faith it is not this newly created definition used by a majority of Evangelical Protestants.
It is written in the scriptures we can "sin even onto death".
Once saved always saved is also a newly created doctrine of the last 400 years it does not exist in any early Christian writing and no biblical text was ever interpreted to suggest it by any of the biblical authors.

I'm of the school of thought that says there is no way God will let His own go, and I would think an almighty God would be powerful enough to do that. That means of course that in your scenario, becoming an atheist after being born again, can only mean you were never saved in the first place. We can extrapolate this to being saved on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays if we like, some will say yes this can happen, but once you're truly saved, you don't want to go back to the ways of the world, and we can again credit this to a God who cares.

The Apostle Paul said a couple of short, but very potent things about ones salvation. He said that "we are all APT to sin" and that "we die daily", meaning that even though we're saved, it doesn't mean that Satan won't stop trying to deceive us. Think about it! How great a trophy would it be for Satan to convert someone BACK into the life of sin they left behind? Remember, we as Christians are to "come ye out from among the world and be a separate people". It means that we still have to live, eat, work, and etc. around sin and sinners, but do NOT have to partake of the same things they do. Until we learn to "mortify" or "kill" or stop doing the things of our past and commit ourselves EVERY DAY, we're still able to lose our salvation.

There seems to be a conflict in your question. If you are concerned about losing salvation, then how can you be an atheist...you still believe that God exists.

Having questions and doubts about God is common, unfortunately, but that doesn't mean you are an atheist.

There are Christian denominations that believe "once saved, always saved." I believe that even after baptism, you must continue to work for your salvation and repent your sins...which you will surely commit being a human. God will forgive any sin as long as you ask him to with sincere regret for having offended Him.
God's Commandments tell us to Love...as He does; forgive as He does...so it follows that he will be merciful and forgive our sins. Because of His Love, He wants everyone in Heaven but it is our daily choices that make the difference.

I've always wondered that too. You'll have some who will say, "well, you weren't really saved to begin with then!" but that would be them judging someone else's heart, and according to their own holy book, that's a big sin.

Wonder if anyone will actually answer the question as asked -- I'd like to know what they think will become of a born-again, convicted, sealed, and delivered christian who became an atheist years later.

It would be good to refer to the Parable of the Sower, and this little parable"

Luke 7:13 So he said to the man who took care of the vineyard, 'For three years now I've been coming to look for fruit on this fig tree and haven't found any. Cut it down! Why should it use up the soil?'

8" 'Sir,' the man replied, 'leave it alone for one more year, and I'll dig around it and fertilize it. 9 If it bears fruit next year, fine! If not, then cut it down.' "

It becomes important for a Christian to 'bear good fruit.' The good fruit comes from the Holy Spirit. To me, grieving the Holy Spirit means that someone is making themself immune to it's urgings, the world and it's cares are just as time consuming and valuable to them as they were before they were saved. The person leaves no time for prayer, no time to study the word, and looses the contact with God that is supposed to spur on more faith.

So the answer to your question is yes. They can be 'cut off', and rejoin the world in spiritual status in God's eyes. They are referred to as 'Apostate.'

From apostle Paul, Romans 8:38 and 39,
"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord."
'course, _he_ got to talk to Jesus directly. That's his view of things and it also fits those of us who have been saved.
If someone 'becomes' atheist after knowing God's salvation, then that knowledge probably never existed.

You cannot loose your salvation if your truely saved. Ephesians 1:13. Salvation belongeth unto the Lord. There is many I can quote but that one says it best.
I noticed the lady above me answer with Matthew 7:21-23- but the key word in those verses is I never knew you. These verses here is a man who went around proclaiming Jesus but never was saved. But Jesus said I NEVER KNEW YOU. Its not enough to know Jesus but does he know you. When one is truly saved they are sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise. Yes one can backslide and be like the Prodigal son. All you lose is that sweet fellowship with God and Jesus. Until you repent that fellowship will not be restored, but salvation is not lost.

yes, it is very possible. I once did!
if you begin to sin after knowing the truth, there's an inward feeling of guilt and a strange feeling that the Holy Ghost has gone. that is the loss!
as for becoming an atheist after salvation, that is foolishness; 'the fool says in his heart that there is no God'. Since Christ cannot be crucified twice, there awaits such eternal damnation and condemnation!

John 10:28 "I give unto my sheep eternal life, and they will never perish." Is Jesus a liar

1 John 2:19 They went out from us, but they were not really of us; for if they had been of us, they would have remained with us; but they went out, so that it would be shown that they all are not of us.

Jesus Junkie - Read the words you wrote. "I never knew you." These are not people who were saved and lost it, God NEVER knew them, they never were saved in the first place.
