If you are currently attached to an Army National Guard unit, there should be a re-enlistment NCO you could talk too. That's where we went to get thing like that going in the active Army anyways.

My husband went Active from the National Guard. He simply talked to a recruiter, re-took the ASVAB, and he was good to go. The recruiter took care of the little technicalities that come with leaving the National Guard Unit, because there is a contractual obligation to your current unit, but in most cases they let you out of it if you are going active duty. Good Luck.

my husband just went through this. here you go:

1.) talk to an Active Duty Army Recruiter. Do this before talking to anyone in National Guard unit b/c if it doesn't work out you haven't made NG mad. The Army is doing fine on their recruitment goals, NG is not and may be reluctant to let him go. Finding a recruiter that will work with him will be tough as they don't get as many points for recruiting Guard members. Let me know what state you are in I know a few recruiters that as experienced and willing to work on this.
2.) After hubby and recruiter have checked MOS, availablility, etc. Hubby needs to get a "Conditional Release" from the National Guard. There is a form that his unit has that is specific to this. Be detailed as to why he wants to do this, (financial reasons, family benefits, insurance, service to country). One thing we were told was to let the guardd know that upon completion of active duty service he HOPES to return to said state and Guard to continue serving. DO NOT PROMISE TO COME BACK...just HOPE to!
3.) Once all this is done it is a paperwork nightmare. The form really just has to be signed by two people, but getting it up hte chain of command can sometimes be difficult. we had to get our congress people involved as it kept getting stuck up the chain. Once it reached the big guy it was done in 5 minutes.
4.) Once you have conditional release, recruiter will make MEPS appt. and hubby will go there and swear in, choose duty station, get bonus info, etc. We got kinda messed up cuz MEPS told my hubby he had to go to new duty station the next day!! He left fo VA and the 3 kids and I were still in Cali for 3 weeks. It all worked out but I have since found out that he could have pushed the issue and had that changed.
Good luck...hope this helps!

You can either go to an Army recruiter and sign up for active duty or go to the office at your guard armory and ask to be put on active duty.

Definitly, talk to the recruiter first. They will be able to determine eligibility, and get you started on the paperwork. Your present unit commander will have to sign off on the release from duty, but that usually isn't a barrier. Unless you are reffering to AGR slots, which is just a matter of looking for the opening..

Good luck!

Given the shortage of man power in Iraq? I'm sure its very easy!!! Ask your supervisor/commanding officer. Heck some national guards people have gone to Iraq already anyway.

you will need to being with talking to a Regular Army Recruiter and getting a DD368 for your NG commander to sign.

Your ASVAB scores are still good, unless you want to score higher and try to get a different job. If you are an NCO, you will require a Grade Determination Waiver.
