I just got back from Charleston, SC and was surprised to find out there is an issue with selling gum. I asked the angry man at the counter if they had it and he barked that they are not allowed to sell it. I am wondering if anyone knows why.

Looks like the Charleston airport is not the only one with a ban on chewing gum. I found some articles about other airports as well. In Sydney, Australia, it is apparently banned because of cleanliness issues. I wonder if that is the issue in Charleston as well; an article I found on someone's blog seems to indicate this might be the answer.

Because of the way that people dispose of it...generally on the floor or under tables. It leaves a disgusting mess which costs a fortune to have to clean up. It's is banned in Singapore.
