from what i gather, it is the effort to redefine marriage as including homosexuality as acceptable for a union approved by god. This also includes gays raising children.

since marriage is a biblical concept insituted by god between a man and a woman, this would violate god's will and commandments. Raising children in a gay context would put undue influence on the children to be gay, and in many cases could lead to child abuse, even though this can occur in a heterosexual setting. There are some gay unions which have provven stable over time, but the majority of unions do not last and this would disrupt the children and possibly open them to harm, if one partner is promiscuous.

that is why there is disagreement now...the gays want their unions to have the status of marriage...although a civil union should be adequate for legal purposes

Everything the poster below me stated is the same lies with no studies to back them up.

1. Most gays do not care if their union is approved by god, they want equal rights that are afforded by our govt to people in a commited relationship.

2. Marriage is more than a biblical concept, other religions having marriages. Seperation of church and state is in play here. Gays are looking for equal rights under the law. Plus, there ARE christian churches that will perform ceremonies for same sex couples.

3. The studies prove that children with gay parents and that are raised by gay parents are just as susceptable to being gay as those raised by hetero parents. Btw, I am the father of 4 str8 kids.

4. The divorce rate in the US is 50-60% and you want to talk about gay unions not lasting....... and cheating? Hetero couples never cheat..... right......

5. Most gays do not care if it is called marriage or civil union, they are concerned with obtaining equal rights under the law. Currently there are only 4 states that provide equal status.

Same as any other special interest group. To give homosexuals a 'fair advantage'. As in murdering a homosexual because you dislike homosexuals is somehow worse than murdering someone else that is not a member of a special interest group.

Probably to make gay marriage the same as hetero marriage. It also may want our kids subjected to that lifestyle in schools and such....In my opinion, schools are there toi teach my kids to read ,do math, learn some history, etc....not to find out why Uncle Steve brings his friend Alex to family functions all the time...that's for families to discuss, not for lobbyists in washington to get our government to endorse....

Coming from conservatives, it means that those "evil" homosexuals are trying to infulence "our" children by teaching gay and lesbian themes in the class room. And god forbide if they actually want to marry the person that they love!
